Trae Young NBA trade rumors

There's no denying that Trae Young is an otherworldly offensive talent.

The dynamic point guard brings a rarely-seen combo of scoring and playmaking that still catches the eye, regardless of how moronic his draft-day trade seems in retrospect.

However, despite his obvious skill, Young's crappy attitude and non-existent defense have made many question how viable he is as a franchise fulcrum. And after getting a second coach fired in as many years, NBA odds are wondering aloud if Young is too petulant for the Peachtree.

Trae Young next team odds have started to surface at sportsbooks, looking ahead at a possible offseason departure for the recent All-Star snub.

Trae Young's situation at a glance

Young's NBA tenure has been one of many highs and lows, but has ultimately left many wanting more.

While he's one of the league's very best at creating shots for both himself and others, his ball dominance and terrible defense have made him a difficult fit for the Atlanta Hawks to build around, despite the front office shooting itself in the foot at multiple junctures.

The Hawks are still stuck in the lower rungs of the East playoff picture. Their run to the East Finals two years ago is increasingly looking like a one-off, with scant evidence elsewhere that Young can lead a winning team.

Nate McMillian's dismissal last month marked the second respected coach to be canned after clashing with Young since 2021, and is signaling perhaps the beginning of the end to Trae's tenure in the ATL.

Trae Young's next team favorites

Miami Heat (+400)

The Heat are mired in flux this season. Less than a year removed from Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, they're struggling to escape play-in territory with a defense that's underwhelmed and an offense that's been flat-out troubling at times.

Kyle Lowry's best days are clearly behind him, and Miami probably still has too much invested in the Butler-Adebayo-Herro core to outright detonate.

Pat Riley's one of the NBA's boldest and most creative front-office tacticians, and you can count on him being in the mix to retool this roster if Young becomes available.

Chicago Bulls (+500)

Speaking of teams mired in flux, the Bulls are deep in NBA purgatory, with an awkward mix of All-Stars and young talent that's currently outside of the playoff picture despite several win-now moves in the past few years.

Shaking up the roster and adding some badly-needed 3-point shooting with Young would seem like a natural move for a franchise badly in need of a jolt, and Chicago has several assets Atlanta could covet in return.

Dallas Mavericks (+600)

We know what you're thinking: Didn't the Mavericks just trade for a star point guard?

Well, yes, they did. But that star point guard was Kyrie Irving, so if history even remotely repeats itself here, Dallas will be back in the market for a PG before too long.

With a clear impetus to contend during Luka Doncic's upcoming prime, the Mavs will be eager to pounce on the next available star — which appears to be Young, even at the expense of full-on draft-trade irony — if the Kyrie thing doesn't pan out (and really, who expects it to?).
