The Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers were at the center of three monster trades this week, and to call them franchise-altering would be an understatement. The dust hasn’t yet settled, and these rosters are still very much in flux.
Because of the uncertainty surrounding each team’s lineup, I’m not interested in betting on the spread, moneyline, or total. Instead, my Warriors vs. Lakers predictions target three NBA player props.
I love Brandin Podziemski to cash his modest PRAs prop and Rui Hachimura is in a great position to do the same. Read my NBA picks to see why you should target them on Thursday, February 6 at 10 p.m. ET on TNT.
Warriors vs Lakers prediction
My best bet
Brandin Podziemski Over 23.5 points + rebounds + assists (-120 at bet365)
My analysis
If you thought the Golden State Warriors roster was shallow before Wednesday’s blockbuster trade, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, and Kyle Anderson were all shipped out for Jimmy Butler, and the six-time All-Star won’t make his Dubs debut tonight vs. the Los Angeles Lakers. Someone’s got to pick up the slack, and I expect Brandin Podziemski to answer the call.
Wiggins and Schroder leave 56.7 vacated minutes and 28.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists up for grabs. Stephen Curry’s offensive struggles have been well-documented, Buddy Hield has played inconsistent basketball, and Draymond Green has never been a prolific scorer. Jonathan Kuminga is still sidelined and Moses Moody is banged up. Podziemski will be leaned on as a scorer in this one.
Last night, the young guard posted a career-best 29 points to go with six boards and four dimes across 40 minutes. He joined the starting five for the ninth time this season, and the results have been great when he runs with the first unit. In those nine starts, Podz has averaged 14 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists, good for 24.8 PRAs. He hit the Over in four of those performances and logged three more games with 22 or 23 PRAs.
The playing time hasn’t always been there for Podziemski, but he’s played 10 games with at least 30 minutes this season and delivered five outings with at least 24 PRAs and two more games with exactly 23.
He’s hit the Over on this line just eight times this season, but three of those have come across his last six games. Just like Jackson Browne’s 1977 hit, the Warriors are "Running on Empty." I expect Podziemski to step up for the second straight night to help out his short-handed squad.
Warriors vs Lakers same-game parlay
Brandin Podziemski Over 23.5 pts+reb+ast
LeBron James Over 6.5 rebounds
Rui Hachimura Over 23.5 pts+reb+ast
LeBron James’ rebound line is set at 8.5, but I prefer taking it down to 6.5 for shorter odds that I can roll into this three-leg parlay. He’s averaging 7.6 boards per game this season, and he’s hit the Over on this line 26 times. That includes four of five and each of his last two without Anthony Davis.
Rui Hachimura has hit the Over on this line just 11 times this season, but he’s done it in five of his last nine. That includes three straight games, all in which he scored at least 20 points. The Lakers are devoid of scoring outside of LeBron now that Davis and Dalton Knecht are gone, so expect Hachimura to keep firing. He should have no problem cashing this line, especially against an even thinner Warriors frontcourt lineup.
