The Wizards and 76ers are in the dumps, but someone has to cover, and tonight that someone will be Philadelphia.

Two of the worst teams in the NBA will compete for a rare win tonight as the Philadelphia 76ers host the Washington Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center.

While both teams are struggling, Philadelphia has more scoring punch available, so I’ll be taking it to cover in my Wizards vs. 76ers predictions below.

Read on for a full analysis of tonight’s matchup in my free NBA picks for Wednesday, March 26.

Wizards vs 76ers prediction

My best bet: 76ers -3 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
With both teams coming in on five-game losing streaks, it’s clear the Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers aren’t doing much winning these days.

Maybe it’s better to say they’re not trying to win much, as they're likely more interested in improving their draft lottery odds at this point in the season.

There’s still a reasonably large gap, however. Washington has the worst record in the league and the worst point differential (-11.9), while Philadelphia is merely bad. And while the 76ers are missing a large portion of their lineup right now, I still like their remaining talent more than what the Wizards put on the court.

Philadelphia is playing without Joel Embiid and Paul George for the rest of the season, while leading scorer Tyrese Maxey (26.3 ppg) is sitting out with a back issue.

Yet the 76ers are still finding ways to score points thanks primarily to Quentin Grimes, who has done a surprisingly strong job of acting as a primary scorer over the past month. Grimes has been averaging 22.2 ppg since joining Philadelphia from the Dallas Mavericks in early February and has pushed that to 28.0 ppg in March.

As a result, even while Philadelphia has been losing regularly, it has continued to score points. Over their last 10 games, the 76ers are averaging 115.9 ppg. That’s not going to set any records, but it’s a number that’s above average even as Philadelphia plays without many of its top players.

Can the Wizards keep up with that level of scoring? I’m highly skeptical, as Washington has only gotten above 112 points twice in its last nine games. Outside of Jordan Poole (20.5 ppg), there’s no reliable scorer on the team, with rookie Alex Sarr (12.7 ppg) stepping up as the second threat down the stretch.

The line on this game suggests these teams are close to equal, with the Sixers having the edge only because they’re at home. I disagree, as I would have Philadelphia as a solid favorite even on a neutral court. At home, the 76ers should be giving far more than three points, so I’m taking them to cover tonight.

Wizards vs 76ers same-game parlay

76ers -2.5

Quentin Grimes 25+ points

Wizards team total Under 113.5

One of the reasons why I’m taking the Sixers to win is the availability of Quentin Grimes, who has shown he can be an elite scorer when given the chance.

Grimes has hit that total in his last eight games, and I see no reason why he can’t get to at least that target again tonight.

Washington has come in Under this total in its last five games, averaging only 108.6 ppg for the season. Philadelphia isn’t likely to help the Wizards push the pace, either, so I expect the Wizards to struggle to score yet again.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
