ACC Conference Tournament analysis
3/17: NC State had a losing record in conference play and was 100-1 to win the ACC Tournament at the start, yet the Wolfpack emerged triumphant. They didn't have any breaks either, as they had to go through both Duke and North Carolina. Can they continue their incredible Cinderella run in the NCAA Tournament?
Previous ACC Conference Tournament action
3/16: NC State's Cinderella run continued Friday with a shocking 73-65 upset of 3-seed Virginia to reach the finals. The Wolfpack meets North Carolina, the No. 1 seed and almost 10-point favorite to lift the ACC crown.
3/15: The big story of the quarterfinals was No. 2 seed (and defending champion) Duke getting jettisoned by NC State. Both the Blue Devils and top-seeded UNC were around +150 to win the ACC title, but with Duke out of the way, the Tar Heels have now shifted to odds-on favorites in the -165 to -200 range.
After steamrolling Florida State in the quarters, UNC opened at -7 vs. Pittsburgh, a team that bracketologists currently have on the wrong side of the bubble come Sunday. The other semi sees another bubble team in Virginia — currently considered among the "last four in" — try to strengthen its tournament resume and avoid being the Wolfpack's next upset victim, opening as a 3-point favorite.
3/14: A couple of second-round upsets, seeing the Nos. 6 and 7 seeds ousted, did little to change the odds for the favorites Duke and UNC, but it does give a slightly easier path for No. 3 Virginia, which is available as long as 16/1 and faces Boston College in the quarterfinal.
The only other schools available shorter than 20/1 are Wake Forest (+650 to +1,200) and Pittsburgh (+1,000 to +1,600)... both of which face each other today.
3/13: Despite the opening day of the tournament featuring the six lowest seeds in the bracket, UNC has actually swapped spots and taken over as the betting favorite to win the tournament, with the No. 1 seed nudging slightly ahead of its Tobacco Road rival.
A reason for the swap, considering neither program plays until the quarterfinals? Well, betting action has favored the Tar Heels; BetMGM, for example, reported that more than half of the tickets and money has gone towards North Carolina winning the tournament, making them the sportsbook's biggest liability.
3/10: Duke enters the tournament as a slight betting favorite despite losing twice to the top-seed North Carolina Tar Heels since the beginning of February, including at home on Saturday, March 9.
