The conference tournament odds were all over the Purdue Boilermakers heading into their semifinal matchup, but their loss busted the bracket, ultimately allowing the Illinois Fighting Illini to claim their second conference title in four years.
Either way, Purdue's March Madness odds remained the same and the Boilermakers still managed to land a No. 1 seed.

Big Ten Conference Tournament analysis
3/18: Purdue might have opened the No. 1 betting option to win the Big Ten tournament but Illinois (opened +300) ended up the last team standing after overcoming a second-half deficit to take down Wisconsin 93-87 in the final. That win gives the Fighting Illini their second conference title in four years.
Previous Big Ten Conference Tournament action
3/17: The madness has already begun, with Wisconsin pulling off the outright win over Purdue last night as a 5.5-point dog. The Badgers will look to pull off one more upset heading into the NCAA Tournament, with the Fighting Illini labeled as 3.5-point faves to take home the banner.
3/16: Despite a spirited defensive effort from Michigan State, favorite Purdue prevailed to meet Wisconsin in the semis after the Badgers pulled a narrow upset over 4-seed Northwestern. Elsewhere, Nebraska thrashed Indiana, and Indiana effectively ended Ohio State's season with a narrow win.
3/15: Following its win over Minnesota in the second round, Michigan State is now up to fourth on the odds board to win the conference tournament, sitting as short as 8/1 as some operators — and posting better odds than No. 3 seed Nebraska and fourth-seeded Northwestern.
However, Tom Izzo's squad faces the favorite (and a likely No. 1 seed in the Big Dance) in Purdue, opening as 7.5-point underdogs, while Nebraska is -3.5 vs. Indiana, No. 2 Illinois is -4.5 against the Buckeyes, and Northwestern is an underdog vs. fifth-seeded Wisconsin.
3/14: No surprise in the first round, as favorites Maryland and Penn State advanced, setting up a Round 2 action today that features Michigan State (an eighth seed) and pre-tournament public play Ohio State, which is a slight favorite against seventh-seeded Iowa.
Purdue remains the favorite, although it went from being odds-on (or even money) across most outlets to now sitting as short as +115 at some outlets, with Illinois (3/1 range) the only other school generally shorter than +1,000 to win.
3/13: Purdue remains the favorite to win, with No. 2 seed Illinois around 3/1 and every other school available 10/1 or longer, but the public seems to be split in where its backing... at least at BetMGM.
The sportsbook is reporting that the Boilermakers lead the way with about 31% of the handle, but it's No. 10 seed Ohio State drawing most of the tickets (20.4%) in the 25/1 range — as the Buckeyes enter the tournament on a four-game win streak and winning five of their last six... including a win over Purdue on February 18.
Ohio State also has a longer path to the Big Ten title starting play in the second round Thursday vs. No. 7 Iowa.
3/11: Purdue enters the tournament as the clear favorite, drawing as long as even money and as short as -135 to reign supreme for a second straight year. Zach Edey & Co. have run roughshod through the competition and have won five straight with tournament play about to begin.

Purdue has maintained its conference supremacy, going 17-3 in conference play after going undefeated outside the Big Ten. Unsurprisingly, the Boilermakers were heavyweight favorites to go back-to-back.
A once prominent contender, Michigan is in the basement by a considerable margin. The Wolverines will be in tough before looking for a hard reset in 2024-25.

It was a Michigan-heavy run in the mid/late-2010s, with either the Spartans or Wolverines winning the Big Ten tournament five times in six years, but following the canceled COVID season, the "roarin' 20s" have seen some new blood.
There was another newish name on the winner's list in 2023, as Purdue claimed its first Big Ten tourney title since 2009.
