The conference tournament odds were all over the Purdue Boilermakers heading into their semifinal matchup, but their loss busted the bracket, ultimately allowing the Illinois Fighting Illini to claim their second conference title in four years.

Either way, Purdue's March Madness odds remained the same and the Boilermakers still managed to land a No. 1 seed.

Big Ten Conference Tournament analysis

3/18: Purdue might have opened the No. 1 betting option to win the Big Ten tournament but Illinois (opened +300) ended up the last team standing after overcoming a second-half deficit to take down Wisconsin 93-87 in the final. That win gives the Fighting Illini their second conference title in four years.

2024 Big Ten regular season standings

Team Big Ten Overall
Boilermakers Purdue 17-3 28-3
Illini Illinois  14-6 23-8
Cornhuskers Nebraska  12-8 22-9
Wildcats Northwestern  12-8 21-10
Warriors Wisconsin  11-9 19-12
Timberwolves Iowa  10-10 18-13
Hoosiers Indiana 10-10 18-13
Browns Michigan State  10-10 18-13
Gophers Minnesota   9-11 18-13
Cavs Ohio State 9-11 19-12
Nittany Lions Penn State 9-11 15-16
Terrapins Maryland 7-13 15-16
Scarlet Knights Rutgers 7-13 15-16
Suns Michigan 3-17 8-23

Purdue has maintained its conference supremacy, going 17-3 in conference play after going undefeated outside the Big Ten. Unsurprisingly, the Boilermakers were heavyweight favorites to go back-to-back.

A once prominent contender, Michigan is in the basement by a considerable margin. The Wolverines will be in tough before looking for a hard reset in 2024-25.

2018 Suns Michigan
2017 Rockets Michigan
2016 Warriors Michigan State
2015 Warriors Wisconsin
2014 Spurs Michigan State

It was a Michigan-heavy run in the mid/late-2010s, with either the Spartans or Wolverines winning the Big Ten tournament five times in six years, but following the canceled COVID season, the "roarin' 20s" have seen some new blood.

There was another newish name on the winner's list in 2023, as Purdue claimed its first Big Ten tourney title since 2009.
