George Washington vs Boise State Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s CBC Game

Boise State very nearly reached the NCAA Tournament but came up just short. As such, the Broncos are favored by 8.5 over George Washington. But it's the Under on the game total that has our attention ahead of the tip.

In the inaugural season of the College Basketball Crown, the Boise State Broncos take the court against the George Washington Revolutionaries after falling to Colorado State in the Mountain West tournament and losing their shot at the NCAA Tournament.

While the Broncos’ resume certainly jumps out by comparison, these defenses are both among the best from their respective conferences.

My George Washington vs. Boise State predictions and college basketball picks expect this to be a low-scoring, slow-paced game on Monday, March 31.

Who will win George Washington vs Boise State?

Although points may be lacking in this matchup, Boise State has the most talented scorer taking the court in Tyson Degenhart. The three-time All-Mountain West selection should be a mismatch for George Washington, with his size and willingness to pull from deep. With Alvaro Cardenas feeding him the rock, Degenhart should be the difference, and I have the Broncos taking it 71-62.

George Washington vs Boise State prediction

My best bet: Under 141.5 (-110 at bet365)

One of the bubble teams for March Madness, the Boise State Broncos nearly forced their way into the NCAA Tournament when they made a push to the Mountain West championship game, eventually falling 69-56 to Colorado State.

That loss marked the team’s third straight Under, something the Broncos have become accustomed to over the last two months. Since Jan. 29, Boise State has gone 11-3 betting the Under, which is partially why this game total might appear low for a team that’s an 8.5-point favorite.

However, this is tied for the team's sixth-highest game total in its last 15, and it’s hit the Under in seven of eight games when the game total is 141.5 or lower. That’s due in part to a defense that’s 60th in adjusted efficiency, per KenPom, and allowing the 33rd-fewest points per game in the country (66.1).

This is one of the best defenses the George Washington Revolutionaries have faced this season, and they could struggle to crack 60. Chris Saputo’s squad is 150th in adjusted offensive efficiency and one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the country.

George Washington is 304th in 3-point percentage (31.7%) and relies heavily on Rafael Castro’s inside game. This offense is one-dimensional and just 249th in adjusted tempo, which should make it even easier for Boise State to slow it down.

The Revolutionaries can stay in this, though, by leaning on their defense, which should help the Under. George Washington allowed the third-fewest PPG in the A-10 this season (66.7), and its perimeter defense was among the best in the mid-majors — opponents shoot just 31.4% from behind the arc against the Revolutionaries.

With both teams playing strong defense and neither having a particularly explosive offense due to their lack of 3-point shooting efficiency, this game could become a low-scoring rock fight.

George Washington vs Boise State same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 141.5

George Washington 1H team total Under 30.5

Boise State -8.5

While Boise State likely won’t light up the scoreboard, it has enough offense to pull away in the second half to cover.

The Broncos’ combo of Degenhart and Cardenas is one of the best in the Mountain West, and forward Andrew Meadow can provide some solid 3-point shooting.

George Washington just doesn’t have a lot beyond Castro, who does all his damage in the low post. If the Revolutionaries had better 3-point shooting, they would be a far more difficult matchup for Boise State.
