It’s been a disappointing season for the Georgetown Hoyas. Nobody is questioning the talent at Georgetown, but there are a lot of questions about what has exactly gone wrong with this program.
The Hoyas are currently 0-14 in conference play and will now take on the Big East’s best in the Villanova Wildcats, on the road no less. The Wildcats are currently 13-3 in conference play and are currently ranked in the Top 10 in the AP poll.

Spread analysis
Let’s just get this straight. I’d be shocked if Georgetown pulled off an upset on the road against Villanova. After all, Georgetown hasn’t won a single game in conference play and it’s not going to happen against the best team.
However, we’ve seen Georgetown fight hard in the first halves of many games this year. If the Hoyas can keep it close through the first half, maybe the second half will be enough to allow Georgetown to get the cover.
Hear me out.
Georgetown is only shooting an effective field goal percentage of 46.5%. The Hoyas also turn the ball over nearly 19% of the time. However, Georgetown does have some length and is earning 32.6% offensive rebounds. Second chances will come around here and there.
Plus, the Hoyas are shooting 35.2% from deep and 74.8% from inside the arc. Georgetown has struggled inside, shooting just 42.9%, which is odd, knowing this team is being coached by one of the greatest big men in NBA history in Patrick Ewing.
Anyway, Villanova is an above-average defense, but teams are capable of scoring against the Wildcats. The Wildcats have held opponents to 31.3% from deep and 47.9% from inside the arc. However, Villanova has been able to hold teams off the foul line consistently this year.
On the other hand, Georgetown’s defense has been atrocious. But it just has to be less atrocious than other games to cover a massive spread. Georgetown is allowing opponents to hit 36.7% from deep and 52.3% from inside the arc, however, Georgetown doesn’t foul all that much.
Villanova also uses 19.6 seconds per possession and that should also limit the pace of this game. To beat Georgetown, a lot of teams have been quick, but Villanova likes to play out of the half-court and does very well at it.
In a conference game, other than Gonzaga in the WCC, you won’t find me taking a favorite with a 20-point spread. I’ll take my chances with Georgetown. Again, the talent is capable. The Hoyas just need to put together a full 40-minute game.
Prediction: Georgetown +20.5 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
If Georgetown wants to stick around in this game, the offense will be a priority. The Hoyas are earning 32.6% offensive rebounds and shooting 35.2% from deep. At the line, Georgetown is also hitting nearly 75% of foul shots.
This team has plenty of potential. It might not come out against Villanova, but if Georgetown can keep it close in the first half, I like their chances to help push this game Over the total.
Prediction: Over 144.5 (-110)
Best bet
At the tip to start the game, we’ll have a Big East Conference team up 20.5 points. We’ll just be biting our fingers, hoping Georgetown can cover the massive spread in 40 minutes.
But all joking aside, Georgetown has looked solid in the first halves of many games this year. The Hoyas get fatigued or just outworked eventually, but the talent is there.
Sometimes a team just needs to play a big, bad opponent for them to wake up. I like Georgetown to play a hard-fought game tonight.
Pick: Georgetown +20.5 (-110)
