Georgetown and Nebraska will play in Las Vegas, and the winner will advance to the first integral College Basketball Crown semifinal.
The Hoyas impressed with a three-point win over Washington State in a game that was essentially a pick 'em, but my Nebraska vs. Georgetown predictions expect a big showing from the Cornhuskers.
Read why in my college basketball picks for Wednesday, April 2.
Who will win Nebraska vs Georgetown?
Nebraska. Much of this tournament may come down to which roster is in less flux, which favors the Cornhuskers here. That's enough for me.
Outside of that, though, the Georgetown Hoyas are likely to play more zone defense here, and I think that suits this Nebraska team well, especially with Brice Williams playing his basketball of the season.
It certainly doesn't hurt our cause that Nebraska scored an efficient 1.16 points per possession the last time they saw a heavy dosage of it — way back in December against Oregon State.
Nebraska vs Georgetown prediction
My best bet: Nebraska -10 (-110 at bet365)
As it has been throughout this tournament, this spread is yet another massive deviation from what it would be if the game were a standard regular-season affair.
KenPom shades this spread at Nebraska -4.5, and BarTorvik is slightly closer. Something like this would make the casual bettor possibly bet the Hoyas on principle, but there's certainly a reason for it.
Based on this number moving even more since opening at an already inflated number, Georgetown will be without the services of at least Jayden Epps and Micah Peavy. That's a massive story, given both players had usage rates over 20% this season.
Not only that, but the norovirus — which has kept them out — could also impact other players. With the players above out, much was thrust upon the shoulders of Malik Mack, and he delivered a phenomenal performance that included 37 points. The problem? It may have come at a cost.
"Malik's not feeling well," head coach Ed Cooley said after the game. "When you show that type of fight, anything's possible. I'm really proud of him."
Taking nothing away from that Mack performance, but expecting a similar one here is unrealistic.
This was already a significant outlier scoring night for a young player who averaged 12.5 points this season. Now you're telling me he's not fully healthy and playing his second game in two days?
That makes me concerned for Georgetown, especially regarding finding enough points. There are far more routes to a Nebraska blowout here, and I'm grabbing that large spread as my best bet. The offense should be able to have its way.
The Huskers' uber-efficient rim attack, which created just over a point per possession on rim runs and ranked in the 90th percentile, should be a significant factor here.
Georgetown has been a solid defense all season, including at the rim. However, I'm suspect that continues here on short rest with a beaten-up, thin roster, especially at the rim, where their physicality will be repeatedly questioned.
Nebraska vs Georgetown same-game parlay (SGP)
Again, this Hoyas team doesn't have the horses to hang here. Nebraska will have a full roster and a strong one-two punch in Brice Williams and Juwan Gary.
I'm taking them to go to the locker with a lead and exceed their team total as they impose their will in the second half for this same-game parlay.
