Spread analysis
The Michigan Wolverines are starting to find themselves again. Earlier in the season, the Wolverines had so many injuries and bouts with COVID. Now that Michigan is healthy, we’re starting to see some success.
The Wolverines are currently a Top-20 team offensively according to KenPom, ranking 19th in adjusted efficiency on the offensive end.
Michigan is shooting a 53% effective field goal percentage while shooting 35.5% from deep and 52.9% from inside the arc. On top of that, Michigan is earning 31.8% offensive rebounds and limiting turnovers to 17.6%.
From three-point range, Michigan is hitting 35.5% and from inside, the Wolverines are knocking down just under 53% of their attempts.
Meanwhile, Ohio State’s defense is far from elite. The Buckeyes are allowing teams to shoot nearly 33% from deep and rarely force turnovers. The Buckeyes will also allow a high number of offensive rebounds for Big Ten standards, giving up over 27% this season.
On the flip side, Ohio State’s offense has been elite this season, shooting an effective field goal percentage of 55.6%. The Buckeyes are hitting 37.8% from deep and 54.9% from inside the arc while limiting turnovers to below 17%.
But Ohio State is going to have trouble finding room to shoot the 3-point shot, with Michigan holding opponents to under 31% from deep. Inside, the Wolverines allow 50.4% shooting in the paint. That’s the area where Ohio State will need to capitalize.
However, on the offensive glass, Ohio State is rebounding at over 30%. But Michigan is holding opponents to just 24.2% offensive rebounds and limiting opponents from foul line opportunities better than Ohio State.
Therefore, I’ll take Michigan -2.5 at home against Ohio State, as the Wolverines look for another big conference win.
Prediction: Michigan -2.5 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
After all, we’ve got two of the most talented offenses in the nation. Both of these teams have elite offenses that will limit turnovers and shoot at a high rate.
Michigan’s going to get a couple more stops on the defensive end and will likely earn more second chance opportunities at the other end. But, overall, this is going to be a game with plenty of points.
Prediction: Over 141 (-110)
Best bet
The Michigan Wolverines are proving that they belong. The Wolverines have won six of their last eight games. During that stretch, Michigan put away Indiana by 18 and just absolutely dominated Purdue, at home, 82-58.
Michigan’s schedule only gets harder from here, but these games will allow them to dictate their own destiny.
Pick: Michigan -2.5 (-110)
