Now is the winter of Oklahoma’s discontent as things have gone from bad to worse for the Sooners. After a stretch that saw Oklahoma lose nine of 11, they then lost guard Elijah Harkless for the season and promptly got blown out by Iowa State.

Now, they just have the small task of trying to deal with one of the best teams in the country in Texas Tech. The No. 9-ranked Red Raiders haven't lost at home this season but can they cover the double-digit spread?

Oklahoma vs Texas Tech picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

Spread analysis

Things have gone from bad to worse for Oklahoma. Losers of nine of 11, then the Sooners lost one of their best defenders in Elijah Harkless, who also happens to put up 10 points per game. Oklahoma then got destroyed by Iowa State 75-54 as 2.5-point underdogs in their very next game.

So, what happens in tonight’s matchup against the Red Raiders, who are 8-0 SU and ATS in their last eight games at home and are 11-3 SU in their last 14 games overall. Funny enough, Texas Tech’s last loss was to Oklahoma in Norman back on February 9.

The Sooners won that game 70-55 as 2.5-point home dogs thanks to an incredible shooting performance from Umoja Gibson who went 8-11 from 3-point range.

In fact, Oklahoma shot nearly 47% from deep in that game, which is a little surprising considering they rank 225th in the country when it comes to 3-point shooting percentage while the Red Raiders rank second in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency per KenPom's ratings.

Now, obviously, Oklahoma is a streaky shooting team and can compete if they got hot from three but it’s hard to get hot against a great defensive team like Texas Tech.

Additionally, the Red Raiders will be motivated to avenge their latest loss and even though their offense can be inconsistent at times, Oklahoma’s defense was starting to slip prior to the loss of Harkless.

The Red Raiders' balance should lead them to another home win and cover on Tuesday night.

Prediction: Texas Tech -10 (-110)

Over/Under analysis

With the way the Red Raiders play at the defensive end of the floor, it’s not surprising to see a total like this for this Big 12 matchup. The average spread in the last 10 Texas Tech games has been 131 with the Over going 6-4.

The previous game against the Sooners had a total of 128 and that game slipped under by three points. Now, Oklahoma had one of its best shooting nights of the season for that while Texas Tech had one of its worst. The idea that the teams will reverse rolls in this matchup isn’t far-fetched considering the way the teams are trending.

As noted, Oklahoma is a streaky shooting team and as a result rank 227th in the nation in scoring at 69.4 points per game but that drops down to 61.2 points over their last 12 games overall.

While Texas Tech averages 73.7 points per game, they are also streaky. For instance, in recent wins against Baylor and TCU, they put up 83 and 82 points respectively but went for just 61 and 55 against Texas and Oklahoma.

Additionally, both of these teams enjoy playing at a slow pace. Texas Tech ranks 201st in adjusted tempo while Oklahoma is 286th.

Those inconsistencies on offense, strong defense, and a slow pace have us leaning towards the Under.

Prediction: Under 130.5 (-110)

Best bet

The streaky nature of the Oklahoma offense means it can get off to some awfully cold starts. In fact, the Sooners average just 30.8 first-half points per game. That ranks 282nd in the nation.

That includes putting up just 25 points in the first half against Iowa State in the Sooners' first game without Harkless. With the Red Raiders arguably having a better defense and averaging 35.7 first-half points per game, we like them to cover the first-half spread.

Pick: Texas Tech first-half -5.5 (-110)
