With last year’s absence, it seems like oddsmakers are forgetting how good the Ivy League really is. With just eight teams in the conference, it’s an extremely competitive league with at least four different teams fighting for a conference title each year.
One of those this year will be Pennsylvania. The Quakers have a ton of talent, bringing back three key pieces — including Michael Wang, who scored 8.5 points per game in 2019 before an injury sidelined him for a year.
Sophomore Jordan Dingle figures to be the leading scorer of this bunch after scoring 13.5 ppg in his previous season with Penn. The Quakers are deep but could be rusty playing in their first game in a couple of seasons.
Meanwhile, Florida State has one of the more interesting rosters in all of college basketball. The starting lineup will have three seniors and two five-star freshmen. That’s if Tanor Ngom is able to play in this game, as he’s been dealing with a concussion and is listed as questionable.
Off the bench, transfers Caleb Mills (Houston) and Cam’Ron Fletcher (Kentucky) figure to have massive roles with this team. Having these guys come off the bench, along with a couple of other seniors, gives this Florida State team a ton of potential.
However, in the first game of the season, giving 19.5 is too much against a potential conference champion. This should be a hard-fought game so we'll take Pennsylvania to lose by less than 20.

Over/Under analysis
It’s always difficult to score on Florida State. Head coach Leonard Hamilton is all about wingspan and height and he’s done it again with this roster.
The smallest player on the roster is 6-foot-3 and he’s got four players that are at least 6-foot-11 on the roster. It’s so hard to shoot and score over these monsters and, on top of that, rebounding becomes increasingly hard against the Seminoles.
Pennsylvania has some scorers that will find their way but at the end of the day, this game will be low scoring with little offense. You’ve got the Quakers, who haven’t played in a year, going up against a Florida State defense that is always one of the best in the nation.
Meanwhile, Florida State is never a fast offensive team. Over the Seminoles' final five games last season, they did not top 75 points in a game, and averaged 67.4 ppg during that span.

Best bet
Florida State’s team total is sitting at 83.5 and as we said above, this isn’t a fast offensive team. The Seminoles like to take things slow and don’t really do anything crazy on the offensive end.
They pride themselves on defense, so you’ll also rarely see this team crash the offensive glass heavily.
Maybe things will change with some new roster pieces but for now, it’s going to be difficult for Florida State to score over 80 points in this game.
Pennsylvania is going to be really good in conference play and if the offense isn’t working, you can be sure that the defense will keep them in the game to start out.
