Fridays aren’t always the best slates when it comes to college basketball. Most teams are preparing for a Saturday or Sunday matchup. However, the Atlantic 10 has one of the better games tonight between the St. Bonaventure Bonnies and the Richmond Spiders.
St. Bonaventure continues to trade wins for losses and is currently 4-3 in conference play this season. Meanwhile, Richmond has won four of its last five games and is currently 5-4 in Atlantic 10 play.
Can the Spiders prove they’re the better team, at home? Here are our college basketball picks and predictions for St. Bonaventure vs. Richmond on February 4.

St. Bonaventure vs Richmond picks and predictions
Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.
Spread analysis
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies are very efficient on the offensive end. While the Bonnies don’t shoot at a high rate, they’ve kept turnovers down this season, which has helped them get more shots up, get to the foul line, and ultimately win more offensive rebounds.
The Bonnies are shooting a 49.6 effective field goal percentage and are only hitting 31.8% of threes. However, the Bonnies aren’t going to chuck up a whole bunch of threes and would rather score inside the arc.
From 2-point range, St. Bonaventure is hitting 50.4% of shots and continues to earn nearly 30% offensive rebounds per game. The biggest thing for the Bonnies has been limiting turnovers to just 16.3%. Also, if the Bonnies are able to get to the foul line at a high rate, they’ll be in great shape, as they’ve hit 77.5% from the charity stripe this season.
On the other hand, St. Bonaventure doesn’t have the best defense. Teams are shooting 35.1% from downtown against Richmond and nearly 50% from inside the arc. The Spiders have limited foul shots and force turnovers nearly 20% of the time, but overall, if St. Bonaventure is able to protect the ball, Richmond is going to have its hands full on the defensive end.
Meanwhile, Richmond’s offense also limits turnovers. The Spiders only turn the ball over 14.2% of the time and are shooting a much higher effective field goal percentage of 52.1%. The Spiders have hit 34% from deep and 53% from inside the arc.
The only area of concern is offensive rebounding, where Richmond has earned just 23.6% on the glass. But it’s not like St. Bonaventure is always allowing offensive rebounds anyway. The reality is, Richmond will get better looks in this game, especially from 3-point range.
Therefore, I’ll side with the home team in this one. I like Richmond to get the job done in the early ESPN2 game.
Prediction: Richmond -3 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
Turnovers are going to be hard to come by in this game. St. Bonaventure is turning the ball over 16.3% of the time while Richmond turns the ball over just 14.2% of the time.
St. Bonaventure doesn’t shoot the three all that well, but they’d rather bang around inside and get to the foul like more frequently. On the other hand, Richmond loves to shoot the three and should be able to get quality looks knowing that St. Bonaventure has allowed teams to shoot nearly 36% from downtown this season.
Therefore, I’d grab the Over in this spot.
Prediction: Over 140.5 (-110)
Best bet
I’m going to stick with Richmond, at home. Ultimately, Richmond’s shooting should be the difference in this game. As long as Richmond is shooting a solid percentage from deep in tonight’s game, the Spiders should have no problem covering against the spread here.
The only area where the Spiders struggle on the defensive end is against the three, but St. Bonaventure isn’t a massive threat from downtown.
Take Richmond -3 as the best bet for the game.
Pick: Richmond -3 (-110)
