Mike Hopkins hasn’t had the success he’d likely hoped for in Seattle, but the Washington Huskies have been a tough out in 2021-22. Despite hovering around .500 for most of the season, the Huskies are a profitable 15-12 ATS. They have been especially adept at home, going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Washington should not be considered an elite team by any stretch of the imagination, but the Huskies have found a groove lately, going 10-4 ATS over their last 14 games.
UCLA has been a much better team at home than on the road. The Bruins are 13-1 at Pauley Pavilion and 7-4 as the away team. We’re leaning toward Washington simply based on the home-away splits for both teams, and we have more conviction on that side given the scheduling dynamics.
It’s fair to question how motivated UCLA will be in this spot to blow out a middle-of-the-road PAC-12 opponent. The Bruins demolished Oregon State on Saturday by nearly 40 points and now head to Seattle to face a Huskies team fresh off a 78-70 win over Washington State. The next game on the calendar for UCLA is a matchup against a ranked USC team in what will be senior night for the Bruins.
Not only do we favor the Huskies against the spread due to the scheduling dynamic, but we also have questions about the health of the Bruins. Leading scorer Johnny Juzang missed Saturday’s clash with the Beavers due to a right ankle injury he sustained falling off a scooter. While the Bruins breezed past the hapless Beavers without Juzang’s services, his 17 points per game might be missed if he’s unable to go yet again. He’s listed as doubtful as of Monday morning.
Washington is led by dynamic guard Terrell Brown. The Arizona transfer is a potential PAC-12 Player of the Year, averaging 21.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. He’s the kind of do-it-all guard that will be needed against a proven, veteran Bruins unit. Emmitt Matthews is second on the team with 11.4 points per night.
We like the Huskies in this spot. It’d be no surprise if UCLA came out sleepy and Washington was able to keep things closer than expected. We don’t need the Huskies to win the game straight up, we simply need them to cover the 10.5-point spread.

Over/Under analysis
The Under has been a pretty good bet for the Bruins lately, who are 14-3 to the Under in their last 17 games following a win. They’re 9-3 to the Under in their last 12 road games and will now be heading to Seattle.
Washington, meanwhile, is 8-1 to the Over in its last 9 overall. The Huskies have been topping the total at home, going 4-0 to the Over in their last 4 games at Hec Edmondson.
UCLA has been an Under team, while the Huskies have been an Over team — something has to give Monday night.
The Huskies play at a fairly fast pace, ranking 56th in KenPom’s adjusted tempo metric. They’ll be playing at home and should be able to establish their up-tempo style here against the Bruins. UCLA ranks 15th in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency and should be able to put up points on a mediocre Huskies defense in a pace-up environment.

We like this scheduling spot for the Huskies. UCLA made a Final Four run a year ago and has its sights set on bigger tasks ahead, while the Huskies will be hungry at home.
Juzang is a significant loss if unable to go in this matchup as expected, even for a veteran team. We anticipate a close matchup and therefore will be taking the points with the home team as our best bet.
