In the lone ACC game today, the Virginia Cavaliers will head stay in Virginia to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Virginia Tech has currently won five straight games but has been on a tear against lower-tier ACC teams. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are also on a winning streak, with four straight wins, including a win, on the road, against Duke.
Despite that win against Duke and a four-game winning streak, Virginia is still an underdog. Here are our picks and predictions for the ACC matchup between the Virginia Cavaliers vs the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.

Spread analysis
Virginia’s defense is not nearly as good as past seasons. However, the Cavaliers are still doing enough to win games. The defense has held opponents to 34.8% from deep and 47.6% from inside the arc on the year.
The Cavaliers are also really good at keeping teams off the foul line and competing without fouling on the defensive end.
Virginia Tech’s going to be tough to defend. The Hokies are shooting an effective field goal percentage of 56% due to hitting 41.5% from three this season.
With Virginia struggling to defend the three-point line, the Hokies will need to execute from deep and they’ve done that all season long. But Virginia is still going to limit possessions and that will help the Cavaliers stick around in this game as well.
Virginia is shooting an effective field goal percentage of 50.6% and while the Cavaliers aren’t nearly as good from the field, Virginia is still shooting 32.8% from deep and 51.3% from inside the arc. Just like Virginia Tech, however, the Cavaliers aren’t getting to the line at a high rate. But they are able to limit turnovers while moving at a slow pace.
Of course, this is going to be a really slow-paced game with minimal possessions. Because of that, I’ll take the points with Virginia and hope that the defense can shine against Virginia Tech on the perimeter.
Prediction: Virginia +4.5 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
Low-scoring games can be boring to watch for some. However, these two teams are very slow-paced teams.
Virginia is 356th in the country in the pace of play while Virginia Tech isn’t far behind, at 329th in the pace of play.
But even on the defensive end, Virginia’s opponents are ranking 358th in the pace of play while Virginia Tech’s opponents rank 354th in the nation in the pace of play.
Both of these teams can show off some offense, but the game is just going to go so slow. It’s the Under or nothing for me.
Prediction: Under 118.5 (-110)
Best bet
In low-scoring games, it’s always best to put your money on the underdog when the time is right.
Virginia Tech has been red hot in the last couple of weeks but so has Virginia. The Cavaliers already knocked off Duke on the road and can do the same against Virginia Tech. We know how well-coached Virginia is.
In close and tight situations, I want to ride with Virginia.
Pick: Virginia +4.5 (-110)
