Spread analysis
The Big 12 gauntlet hasn't been kind to either of these teams. The Mountaineers have lost six straight and 13 of their last 14 while the Sooners have lost seven of nine including a four-game skid that ended over the weekend in a win over Oklahoma State.
With a combined eight conference wins, these are the bottom-feeders of the Big 12, but who will have the edge tonight?
These squads did battle just over a month ago, which resulted in a 72-62 Sooners win as 2.5-point road dogs at WVU Coliseum. Tanner Groves led the way with 21 points and six boards on 9-11 shooting.
This time around, OU is in its own gym and should have a couple of sizable advantages that should lead them to another win and cover.
To start, the Mountaineers are in a really tough schedule spot after two emotional losses at Iowa State (84-81) and at home against Texas (82-81), both games that could and should be in the win column.
They're now tasked with going back on the road against an experienced Sooners team that — despite its poor conference record — plays much better at home (10-5 SU) and is strong defensively, ranking 37th in adjusted defensive efficiency, per KenPom.
On the flip side, West Virginia's defense has been absolutely dreadful of late, allowing 78.8 points over its last six games (more on that later) and the Sooners — who rank fifth in the nation in 2-point percentage — can take advantage.
Both squads sit just inside the Top 80 in KenPom's offensive efficiency ratings but as mentioned above, it's Oklahoma's work on the defensive end that gives them a huge edge.
The Mountaineers — sitting well outside the Top 200 in almost every shooting statistic — will be in tough against a Sooners defense that allows under 65 points per game and kept WVU to just 38% shooting in the first matchup.
These are the worst teams in the Big 12, but WVU has just a little too much to overcome if they want to be in this game late. Lay the points with Tanner Groves and the Sooners at home.
Prediction: Oklahoma -4.5 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
West Virginia's current run of Overs is the stuff of blockbuster films.
Okay, maybe not... but it's damn impressive. The Mountaineers are 18-11 to the Over on the season and a mindboggling 15-3 over their last 18 games, due in large part to their defense.
And while the defense has been trending down for a few weeks now, it gets even worse on the road where they're allowing just a shade under 80 points per game (!) across their last eight road contests.
The January 26 matchup went Over and, with the way WVU's defense has played of late, this one should go Over once again.
Prediction: Over 135 (-110)
Best bet
West Virginia is the worst team in the Big 12, is in a much worse spot than they were in the first matchup, and now has to go back on the road.
They're also 0-5 ATS in its last five meetings with the Sooners. Lay the number.
Pick: Oklahoma -4.5 (-110)
