Spread analysis
In the regular season, Yale and Princeton split its season series, with each team picking up road wins against one another.
Princeton’s offense has been much better this season, shooting 38.7% from deep and 56.1% from inside the arc. Even with such great percentages from the field, it's shooting just 64.6% from the foul line and rarely gets there in the first place.
The Tigers limit turnovers to 14.5%, but also only bring down 24.9% offensive rebounds this season. They have some areas where they're very good but other areas that don't reach that level.
Yale, on the other hand, is holding opponents to 30.3% from three and 51.2% from inside the arc. The Bulldogs foul at an above-average rate but should be able to keep those numbers down today.
On the glass, they allow just 27% offensive rebounds and that should be good enough to hold back Princeton from racking up a lot of second-chance points.
Offensively, Yale is shooting just 32.8% from three and 50.5% from inside the arc. It also doesn’t earn many offensive rebounds but does get to the line more frequently. Turnovers can get a bit high but Princeton isn’t a major threat to start forcing the Bulldogs to make mistakes.
Princeton’s two biggest areas on defense are limiting offensive rebounds and limiting foul shots. Yale likes to get to the line a lot so if the Tigers are able to keep it off the charity stripe, they'll give themselves a fighter's chance.
However, the Bulldog’s defense should be able to hold their own and keep them in this game. I’ll go with Yale and the points in what's expected to be another close Ivy League game.
Prediction: Yale +3.5 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
Princeton’s defense isn’t going to affect shot attempts but the Tigers will keep Yale off the foul line and limit second chances. Teams have also chosen to play a very fast tempo against the Bulldogs this season.
That being said, they should be able to limit second chances as well and give themselves back more possession with the ball.
Princeton is going to shoot a ton of 3-point shots, something it has done well this season. However, Yale is holding opponents to 30.3% from three this season and will be able to pull in those rebounds on the Tiger's misses.
Therefore, I’ll ride the Under 143 in this matchup. Just give me four minutes of both teams struggling to score and we’ll get this.
Prediction: Under 143 (-110)
Best bet
I’m sticking with Yale. The Ivy League is such a tight league with so much competition, and these games usually end within one or two scores so I’ll take my chances.
It can defend the 3-point shot and limit second chances while also being able to knock down its own looks at a higher percentage.
The foul line for both teams remains a mystery but the Bulldog's defense is much better. And you know the saying, defense wins championships.
Pick: Yale +3.5 (-110)
