The Kent State Golden Flashes finished the season with a loss to Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship. At just 7-6 on the year, Kent State had a chance of winning a conference championship, but of course, fell short.
Now they’ll get to redeem themselves in bowl season at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl against the Wyoming Cowboys.
The Cowboys finished the season 6-6 but ended up losing three of their last five games. Kent State and Wyoming are completely different teams — one loves offense and the other loves defense. Here are our college football picks and predictions for Kent State vs Wyoming on Tuesday, December 21.

Spread analysis
The Kent State Golden Flashes were 7-5 in the regular season and ended up playing for the MAC Championship. Of course, Kent State lost, but still, to have that opportunity with just seven wins is fascinating.
The Golden Flashes are all about offense, averaging 32.6 points per game while allowing 35.1. On offense, Kent State averaged over 480 yards of offense with 243.3 of those coming on the ground.
Marquez Cooper added 1,080 yards on 217 carries along with 11 touchdowns on the year. Kent State’s run game was excellent all season long and they’ll have a legitimate chance to showcase it against Wyoming.
Wyoming hasn’t been awful against the run, yet they’ve still allowed 169.1 yards per game on the ground this season. The secondary has been elite, and the pass rush has done its thing this year, but tackling has been a major problem this season.
If Kent State gets out into the open field, a missed tackle or two will happen against Wyoming.
However, it’s still going to be tricky for Kent State against a Wyoming defense that allows just 22.5 points per game and under 350 yards per game. If the offense can’t hold up their side of the bargain, there’s a good chance Kent State falls in this one.
Kent State has struggled to stop the run and has allowed 190.4 yards per game on the ground this season. That works perfectly for a Wyoming team averaging 195.1 yards per game on the ground.
The expectation is for both teams to run the ball a great amount. Wyoming has the much better defense and should end up winning this game.
Prediction: Wyoming -3 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
As I stated above, I’m expecting a lot of running in this game, as neither team is all that great at stopping it. Although Kent State is much worse in every area on defense, Wyoming relies way more on the run game.
Wyoming has rushed for 195.1 yards while only passing for 165.7 yards per game this season. So, with both teams looking to run the ball and a Wyoming defense that should be able to get some stops against Kent State, I like the Under in this one.
Prediction: Under 59.5 (-110)
Best bet
I’m sticking with Wyoming as the best bet. The Cowboys just have more balance on the defensive end and should be a shock to Kent State.
The reality is that the MAC never had a prominent defense this year. Once these MAC teams face some bigger defenses like Wyoming, running the offense isn’t going to be as easy.
Take Wyoming -3.
Pick: Wyoming -3 (-110)
