College football bowl season has long been a huge holiday tradition for bettors, but analyzing the bowl game odds isn't as easy as simply breaking down the team.

Thanks to the NCAA's transfer portal, keeping up with which players are actually participating is now equally as important.

To help you stay on top of all the movement, we have a game-by-game opt-out tracker — plus live college football odds — for each Bowl Game matchup.

Celebration Bowl

Saturday, Dec. 14

The following players will not participate in the Celebration Bowl:

Jackson State

  • Jacobian Morgan, QB (injury)
  • Zy McDonald, QB (injury)

South Carolina State

  • Eric Phoenix, QB (injury)
  • Jamare Benjamin, CB (transfer portal)

Salute to Veterans Bowl

Saturday, Dec. 14

The following players will not participate in the Salute to Veterans Bowl:

South Alabama

  • Gio Lopez, QB (injury)
  • Fluff Bothwell, RB (transfer portal)
  • Jordan Scruggs, CB (transfer portal)

Gio Lopez was injured in the Jaguars’ final game on Nov. 29. There has not been official word on his bowl-game status, though Lopez has loudly declared he will return to South Alabama in 2025.

Fluff Bothwell averaged 7.5 yards per carry as the Jaguars’ leading rusher, but do not outright dismiss South Alabama’s rushing attack without him. Kentrel Bullock took more carries this season and should keep the Jaguars’ preferred offensive design intact.

Western Michigan

  • Lorenzo Williams Jr., DB (transfer portal)
  • Blake Bosma, TE (transfer portal)
  • Sid Kaba, DL (transfer portal)
  • JD Davis II, QB (transfer portal)
  • Angelo Stockstill, DB (transfer portal)

Frisco Bowl

Tuesday, Dec. 17

The following players will not participate in the Frisco Bowl:

Memphis

  • Elijah Herring, LB (transfer portal)
  • Marvae Myers-Glover, S (transfer portal)
  • William Stewart, LS (transfer portal)
  • Tahj Ra-El, S (transfer portal)
  • Sutton Smith, RB (injury)
  • Marcello Bussey, WR (injury)

West Virginia

  • CJ Donaldson Jr., RB (transfer portal)
  • Ric'Darious Farmer, WR (transfer portal)
  • Josiah Trotter, LB (transfer portal)
  • TJ Crandall, CB (transfer portal)
  • Tyler Evans, WR (transfer portal)
  • Will Dixon, TE (transfer portal)
  • Bryce Biggs, OL (transfer portal)
  • Josiah Jackson, CB (transfer portal)
  • Raleigh Collins III, DB (transfer portal)
  • Jaden Bray, WR (injury)
  • Traylon Ray, WR (injury)
  • Ayden Garnes, CB (injury)
  • Aubrey Bruks, S (injury)

Boca Raton Bowl

Wednesday, Dec. 18

The following players will not participate in the Boca Raton Bowl:

Western Kentucky

  • Caden Veltkamp, QB (transfer portal)
  • TJ Finley, QB (transfer portal)
  • Turner Helton, QB (transfer portal)
  • LT Sanders, RB (transfer portal)
  • Easton Messer, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jarvis Hayes, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jaylen Hampton, WR (transfer portal)
  • Koy Moore, WR (transfer portal)
  • Moussa Barry, WR (transfer portal)
  • River Helms, TE (transfer portal)
  • Evan Wibberley, OL (transfer portal)
  • Darrell Johnson Jr., OL (transfer portal)
  • Dallas Walker, DL (transfer portal)
  • Deante McCray, DL (transfer portal)
  • Hosea Wheeler, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jayden Loving, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jalil Rivera-Harvey, DL (transfer portal)
  • Marcus Patterson, DL (transfer portal)
  • Darius Thomas, LB (transfer portal)
  • Alex Ford, S (transfer portal)
  • Demarko Williams, S (transfer portal)
  • Lucas Carneiro, K (transfer portal

The Hilltoppers will be down to their third-string quarterback after both Veltkamp and Finley entered the transfer portal. Could Veltkamp play in the Boca Raton Bowl? Absolutely and it would not be unprecedented under head coach Tyson Helton, but there has not been a clear indication just yet.

James Madison

  • Chris Lofton, WR (transfer portal)
  • Alonza Barnett, QB (injury)
  • Ayo Adeyi, RB (injury)
  • Tyler Purdy, RB (injury)
  • Jordan Funk, TE (injury)
  • Ke'Marion Baldwin, RB (transfer portal)
  • Max Moss, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jesse Ramil, OL (transfer portal)
  • Darold DeNgohe, DL (transfer portal)

The Dukes favor the run in their offensive design and should emphasize it even further in the Boca Raton Bowl with Barnett unavailable, especially given Western Kentucky ranks No. 122 defensive rushing success rate.

LA Bowl

Wednesday, Dec. 18

The following players will not participate in the LA Bowl:

California

  • Nyziah Hunter, WR (transfer portal)
  • Brooklyn Cheek, S (transfer portal)
  • Nate Ruchena, LB (transfer portal)
  • Matthew Wykoff, iOL (transfer portal)
  • Fernando Mendoza, QB (transfer portal)

UNLV

  • Fisher Camac, DE (transfer portal)
  • Tony Grimes, CB (transfer portal)
  • Michael Allen, RB (transfer portal)
  • Matthew Sluka, QB (transfer portal)
  • Greg Burrell, RB (transfer portal)

New Orleans Bowl

Thursday, Dec. 19

The following players will not participate in the New Orleans Bowl:

Georgia Southern

  • Deontre Morris, S (transfer portal)
  • Dexter Williams II, QB (transfer portal)
  • DeAndre Buchannon, WR (transfer portal)
  • Isaac Walker, DL (left team)

Sam Houston State

  • Jase Bauer, QB (transfer portal)
  • DJ McKinney, RB (transfer portal)
  • Jay Ducker, RB (transfer portal)
  • John Gentry, RB (transfer portal)
  • Zach Hrbacek, RB (transfer portal)
  • Simeon Evans, WR (transfer portal)
  • Fernando Garza, TE (transfer portal)
  • Briceon Hayes, DL (transfer portal)
  • Chris Murray, DL (transfer portal)
  • Denver Warren, DL (transfer portal)
  • Kendrick Dujour, DL (transfer portal)
  • Quincy Wright, DL (transfer portal)
  • Richard Outland, DL (transfer portal)
  • S'Maje Burrell, LB (transfer portal)
  • Trey Fields, LB (transfer portal)
  • David Fisher, CB (transfer portal)
  • Caleb Weaver, S (transfer portal)
  • Isaiah Cash, S (transfer portal)
  • Jadon Cardell, K (transfer portal)

The players who are genuine contributors to the Bearkats are increasingly expected to play, given the importance of the first bowl game in Sam Houston State history in just its second year at the FBS level. Running back Jay Ducker, in particular, looks poised to finish his one season with the Bearkats before actively finding his next destination.

Cure Bowl

Friday, Dec. 20

The following players will not participate in the Cure Bowl:

Ohio

  • Kaden Hurst, WR (injury)
  • Jay Crable, DL (injury)
  • Michael Molnar, LB (injury)
  • Kendall Bannister, CB (injury)
  • Tony Mathis, CB (injury)
  • Jeremiah Wood, S (injury)

Jacksonville State

  • Cam Vaughn, WR (transfer portal)
  • Reginald Hughes, LB (transfer portal)
  • Anthony Benjamin, WR (transfer portal)
  • Brannon Spector, WR (injury)
  • Dallan Wright, WR (injury)
  • Tar'Varish Dawson, WR (transfer portal)

  • Zechariah Poyser, S (transfer portal)

  • K.D. Arnold, OL (transfer portal)
  • Jibreel Al-amin, LB (transfer portal)
  • Reginald Hughes, LB (transfer portal)
  • Derek Carter, CB (transfer portal)
  • Fred Davis, CB (transfer portal)
  • Jabari Mack, CB (transfer portal)
  • Tee Denson, S (transfer portal)

Gasparilla Bowl

Friday, Dec. 20

The following players will not participate in the Gasparilla Bowl:

Tulane

  • Ty Thompson, QB (transfer portal)
  • Darian Mensah, QB (transfer portal)
  • Kai Horton, QB (transfer portal)
  • Trey Cornist, RB (transfer portal)
  • Angelo Anderson, DL (transfer portal)
  • Parker Petersen, DL (transfer portal)

Mensah has already committed to transfer to Duke, offsetting much of the good mood at Tulane that originally stemmed from head coach Jon Sumrall spurning Power Four overtures. Mensah was a breakout star this season, and it is hard to underscore the drop off from him to Ty Thompson, if Thompson does indeed still suit up.

Florida

  • Graham Mertz, QB (injury)
  • T.J. Searcy, DL (transfer portal)
  • Deuce Spurlock, LB (transfer portal)
  • Andy Jean, WR (transfer portal)
  • Eugene Wilson, WR (injury)
  • Kahleil Jackson, WR (injury)
  • Tre Wilson, WR (injury)
  • Arlis Boardingham, TE (transfer portal)
  • Gavin Hill, TE (transfer portal)
  • Christian Williams, OL (transfer portal)
  • Mike Williams, OL (transfer portal)
  • Bryce Capers, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jack Pyburn, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jamari Lyons, DL (injury)
  • Justus Boone, DL (transfer portal)
  • Kelby Collins, DL (transfer portal)
  • Quincy Ivory, DL (transfer portal)
  • Ja'Keem Jackson, CB (transfer portal)
  • Jason Marshall, CB (injury)
  • Aaron Gates, S (injury)

College Football Playoff Round 1 (10/7)

Friday, Dec. 20

The following players will not participate in this CFP Round 1 game:

Indiana

  • Donaven McCulley, WR (transfer portal)
  • E.J. Williams, WR (transfer portal)
  • Drew Evans, OL (injury)
  • Nick Kidwell, OL (injury)
  • Noah Bolticoff, OL (transfer portal)
  • Vince Fiacable, OL (injury)
  • Andrew Depaepe, DL (injury)
  • Nahji Logan, LB (transfer portal)
  • Josh Philostin, CB (injury)
  • DJ Warnell Jr., S (transfer portal)
  • Tyrik McDaniel, S (transfer portal)

Notre Dame

  • Gi'Bran Payne, RB (injury)
  • Aiden Gobaira, DL (transfer portal)
  • Boubacar Traore, DL (injury)
  • Charles Jagusah, OL (injury)
  • Styles Prescod, OL (injury)
  • Tyson Ford, DL (transfer portal)
  • Benjamin Morrison, CB (injury)
  • Chance Tucker, CB (injury)
  • Jaden Mickey, CB (transfer portal)
  • Taebron Bennie-Powell, S (injury)

The Irish have been without preseason All-American cornerback Benjamin Morrison for the second half of the season, and have fared rather well with the country’s best passing defense.

This may be an "opt out tracker," but it should also note the opposite of that. Notre Dame expects defensive tackle Howard Cross to return after missing the last three games with a balky ankle. Cross's return should also free up interior linemate Rylie Mills to wreak more havoc.

College Football Playoff Round 1 (11/6)

Saturday, Dec. 21

The following players will not participate in this CFP Round 1 game:

SMU

  • Preston Stone, QB (transfer portal)
  • Camar Wheaton, RB (injury)
  • Jaylan Knighton, RB (injury)
  • Jake Bailey, WR (injury)
  • RJ Maryland, TE (injury)
  • Jahari Rogers, CB (transfer portal)

Preston Stone will remain with the Mustangs through their Playoff run, providing depth and experience behind starter Kevin Jennings. Remember, Stone began the season as SMU's starter.

Penn State

  • Beau Pribula, QB (transfer portal)
  • Feyisayo Oluleye, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jerry Cross, TE (transfer portal)
  • T.A. Cunningham, DL (transfer portal)
  • Zuriah Fisher, DL (injury)
  • Anthony Donkoh, OL (injury)
  • Kevin Winston, S (injury)

Backup quarterback Beau Pribula was more than your run-of-the-mill second stringer, leading a run-heavy package for the Nittany Lions and scoring four times this season. He will not play for Penn State, unlike other Playoff backups in the portal, leaving the Nittany Lions with either Drew Allar trying to create that change of pace or do-everything tight end Tyler Warren lining up as a wildcat.

College Football Playoff Round 1 (12/5)

Saturday, Dec. 21

The following players will not participate in this CFP Round 1 game:

  • Quinn Castner, K/P (injury)

Texas

  • Sydir Mitchell, DL (transfer portal)
  • Tiaoalii Savea, DL (transfer portal)
  • Trey Owens, QB (injury)
  • Christian Clark, RB (injury)
  • CJ Baxter, RB (injury)
  • Velton Gardner, RB (injury)
  • Johntay Cook II, WR (transfer portal)
  • Aaron Bryant, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jaray Bledsoe, DL (transfer portal)
  • Tausili Akana, DL (transfer portal)
  • Derion Gullette, LB (transfer portal)
  • Derek Williams, S (injury)

College Football Playoff Round 1 (9/8)

Saturday, Dec. 21

The following players will not participate in this CFP Round 1 game:

Tennessee

  • Nathan Leacock, WR (transfer portal)
  • Khalifa Keith, RB (transfer portal)
  • Kaleb Webb, WR (transfer portal)
  • Vysen Lang, OL (transfer portal)
  • Jordan Ross, DL (injury - questionable)
  • Jalen Smith, LB (transfer portal)
  • Keenan Pili, LB (injury)
  • Jordan Matthews, CB (transfer portal)
  • Jourdan Thomas, S (injury)

Ohio State

  • Air Noland, QB (transfer portal)
  • Jayden Bonsu, DB (transfer portal)
  • Devin Brown, QB (transfer portal)
  • TC Caffey, RB (injury)
  • Jayden Ballard, WR (transfer portal)
  • Kojo Antwi, WR (transfer portal)
  • Josh Simmons, OL (injury)
  • Miles Walker, OL (transfer portal)
  • Seth McLaughlin, OL (injury)
  • Gabe Powers, LB (transfer portal)

Despite entering the portal, Brown will remain with the Buckeyes through their Playoff run.

Myrtle Beach Bowl

Monday, Dec. 23

The following players will not participate in the Myrtle Beach Bowl:

Coastal Carolina

  • DJ Moore, QB (transfer portal)
  • Ethan Vasko, QB (transfer portal)
  • Noah Kim, QB (transfer portal)
  • Darren Lloy, RB (transfer portal)
  • Ja'Vin Simpkins, RB (injury - out)
  • Simeon Price, RB (transfer portal)
  • Max Balthazar, RB (injury - out)
  • Andre Jones, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jamahdia Whitby, WR (transfer portal)
  • Kendall Karr, TE (transfer portal)
  • Jacob Katauska, OL (transfer portal)
  • Jake Buerk, OL (transfer portal)
  • Logan Brasfield, OL (transfer portal)
  • Marlon Corey II, OL (transfer portal)
  • Clev Lubin, DL (transfer portal)
  • Naejuan Barber, DL (transfer portal)
  • TrayVaughn Swanigan, DL (transfer portal)
  • Spencer Kishbaugh, LB (transfer portal)
  • Brayden Hall, CB (transfer portal)
  • Matthew McDoom, CB (transfer portal)
  • Deondre Shepherd, S (transfer portal)
  • Jaitlin Hampton, S (transfer portal)
  • Justin Keller, K (transfer portal)

With Ethan Vasko and Noah Kim unavailable, the Chanticleers will not have a quarterback on their Myrtle Beach Bowl roster who has thrown a collegiate pass.

UTSA

  • Eddie Lee Marburger, QB (transfer portal)
  • Jackson Gilkey, QB (transfer portal)
  • Kevorian Barnes, RB (transfer portal)
  • Rocko Griffin, RB (transfer portal)
  • De'Corian Clark, WR (injury)
  • Jace Wilson, WR (transfer portal)
  • Oscar Cardenas, TE (injury)
  • Nick Booker-Brown, DL (transfer portal)
  • Ronald Triplette, DL (transfer portal)
  • Walker Baty, DL (transfer portal)
  • Corey Lucius, LB (transfer portal)
  • Chase Allen, K (transfer portal)

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Monday, Dec. 23

The following players will not participate in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl:

Northern Illinois

  • Isaac Hatfield, LS (transfer portal)
  • Trayvon Rudolph, WR (transfer portal)
  • Kyle Thomas, WR (transfer portal)
  • Amariyun Knighten, DB (transfer portal)
  • Navaeh Sanders, DE (transfer portal)
  • Ethan Hampton, QB (transfer portal)
  • Trayvon Rudolph, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jalen Johnson, WR (transfer portal)
  • Keyshaun Pipkin, WR (transfer portal)
  • Cam’Ron Dabney, CB (transfer portal)
  • Raishein Thomas, DE (transfer portal)
  • Shaad Dabney, DB (transfer portal)

Huskies freshman Josh Holst completed 58% of his passes in six appearances this season, four of them rather genuine. Most notably, he went 22-of-46 for 210 yards against Toledo. He'll step up in place of Ethan Hampton.

Trayvon Rudolph may have been the Huskies’ leading receiver, but with the rest of their corps intact, losing his 37 catches for 392 yards should be tolerable.

Fresno State

  • Phoenix Jackson, LB (transfer portal)
  • Justin Houston, CB (transfer portal)
  • Jacob Holmes, DL (transfer portal)
  • Mikey Keene, QB (transfer portal)
  • Antoine Sullivan, WR (transfer portal)
  • Alzillion Hamilton, CB (transfer portal)
  • Malik Sherrod, RB (transfer portal)
  • Tim Grear, WR (transfer portal)
  • Raylen Sharpe, WR (transfer portal)
  • Gavriel Lightfoot, DL (transfer portal)
  • Phoenix Jackson, LB (transfer portal)

Losing Mikey Keene hurts, but the Bulldogs' offense was wretched with him, too. That said, backup Joshua Wood is unproven at best and unable to create success out of disaster like Keene loves to, at worst.

Hawai'i Bowl

Tuesday, Dec. 24

The following players will not participate in the Hawai'i Bowl:

South Florida

  • Byrum Brown, QB (injury - questionable)
  • Israel Carter, QB (transfer portal)

  • Ranod Smith, WR (transfer portal)
  • Tyree Kelly, WR (transfer portal)
  • Andrew Kilfoyl, OL (transfer portal)
  • Nikola Milovac, OL (transfer portal)
  • Doug Blue-Eli, DL (transfer portal)
  • Aamaris Brown-Bunkley, CB (transfer portal)
  • Tawfiq Byard, S (transfer portal)
  • Trey Dubuc, LS (transfer portal)

San Jose State

  • Emmett Brown, QB (transfer portal)
  • Kayden Collins, RB (transfer portal)
  • Paolo Burak, RB (transfer portal)
  • Nick Nash, WR (transfer portal)
  • Sawyer Deerman, WR (transfer portal)
  • Alexander Cobbs, DL (transfer portal)
  • DJ Harvey, CB (transfer portal)
  • Michael Dansby, CB (transfer portal)

Losing leading receiver Nick Nash moved this spread by a point, to -3.5 from -4.5, underscoring the impact of his 104 catches for 1,382 yards and 16 touchdowns this season. The rest of the Spartans' roster accounted for 13 receiving touchdowns.

GameAbove Sports Bowl

Thursday, Dec. 26

The following players will not participate in the GameAbove Sports Bowl:

Pittsburgh

  • Nate Yarnell, QB (transfer portal)

  • Jaremiah Anglin Jr., S (transfer portal)

Toledo

  • Larry Stephens, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jay’Quan Bostic, S (transfer portal)
  • Tysen Smith, TE (transfer portal)
  • Zach Potter, DL (transfer portal)

  • Dierre Kelly, DL (transfer portal)
  • Alijah Williams, LB (transfer portal)
  • Joseph Sipp Jr., LB (transfer portal)
  • Edward Rhambo, CB (transfer portal)
  • Darius Lorfils, S (injury - questionable)

  • BJ Diakite, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Jeffrey Ugochukwu, LB (transfer portal)

Quarterback Diego Pavia won an injunction in a Tennessee court on Dec. 18, granting him 2025 eligibility. While it was never in doubt that Pavia would play in this bowl game, that victory seals it and imbues the program with added momentum. The Birmingham Bowl is no longer only a cap on the 2024 season; it is also a 2025 prelude.

  • Warren Smith, CB (transfer portal)
  • Adrian Wilson, S (transfer portal)
  • Aslan Fraser, S (transfer portal)
  • Jackson Lataimua, S (transfer portal)
  • Nick Haberer, P (transfer portal)

In addition to quarterback John Mateer's departure for Oklahoma, the Cougars are now without their head coach Jake Dickert, who took the job at Wake Forest barely a week before this bowl game.

Las Vegas Bowl

Friday, December 27

The following players will not participate in the Las Vegas Bowl:

Texas A&M

  • T.J. Shanahan, OL (transfer portal)
  • Kam Dewberry, OL (transfer portal)
  • Hunter Erb, OT (transfer portal)
  • Jaden Platt, TE (transfer portal)
  • Jaylen Henderson, QB (transfer portal)
  • Conner Weigman, QB (transfer portal)

USC

  • Zion Branch, S (transfer portal)
  • Zachariah Branch, WR (transfer portal)
  • Duce Robinson, WR (transfer portal)
  • Mason Murphy, OL (transfer portal)
  • Sam Greene, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Jake Jensen, QB (transfer portal)
  • Amos Talalele, OL (transfer portal)
  • Denis Lynch, K (transfer portal)
  • Kyron Hudson, WR (transfer portal)
  • Gino Quinones, OL (transfer portal)
  • Miller Moss, QB (transfer portal)
  • Quinten Joyner, RB (transfer portal)
  • Kade Eldridge, TE (transfer portal)
  • Antony Lucas, DL (injury - out)
  • Bear Alexander, DL (opt-out)
  • DJ Peevy, DL (transfer portal)
  • Eric Gentry, LB (injury)
  • Raesjon Davis, LB (injury)
  • Jaylin Smith, CB (opt-out)
  • Garth White, K (transfer portal)

Losing Zachariah Branch to the portal should be a red flag for USC's direction under Lincoln Riley. A dynamic scoring threat whenever he has the ball in his hands, the world assumed Branch would excel under Riley. Instead, he is seeking a better offense elsewhere.

  • Jayden McGowan, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jalen Cheek, S (transfer portal)

  • Dante Dowdell, RB (transfer portal)
  • Williams Nwaneri, DE (transfer portal)
  • Nate Boerkircher, TE (transfer portal)
  • Keona Davis, DE (transfer portal)

  • Jordyn Morgan, S (transfer portal)
  • Luke Wisham, S (transfer portal)
  • Pig Cage, S (transfer portal)
  • Buck Buchanan, K (transfer portal)

Louisiana Tech replaced Marshall when the Thundering Herd pulled out of the game after losing more than two dozen players to the transfer portal.

Army

  • Kanye Udoh, RB (transfer portal)
  • Zach Mundell, QB (injury)
  • Jack Kayser, RB (transfer portal)
  • Kody Harris-Miller, DL (injury)
  • Kyle Lewis, DL (injury)
  • Anderson Britton, K (injury)

Kanye Udoh's transfer is a rare one from West Point, one he could do only because he is not yet a junior. Udoh was Army's No. 2 rusher, behind QB Bryson Daily. Without Udoh's 6.24 yards per carry and 10 touchdowns, the Black Knights will rely more on Noah Short. He had 70 carries this season, far from inexperienced, but he is not the reliable commodity that Udoh was.

Music City Bowl

Monday, Dec. 30

The following players will not participate in the Music City Bowl:

Iowa

  • Rusty Vanwetzinga, FB (transfer portal)
  • James Resar, QB (transfer portal)
  • Cade McNamara, QB (transfer portal)

  • Jack Kautz, LS (transfer portal)
  • Orion Phillips, P (transfer portal)
  • Boyton Cheney, CB (transfer portal)
  • Luther Burden, WR (declared for NFL draft)

One of the best receivers in the country, Burden was Missouri’s best threat near the goal line.

Fiesta Bowl: College Football Playoff Round 2 (3/6)

Tuesday, Dec. 31

The following players will not participate in this CFP Round 2 game:

Boise State

  • Malachi Nelson, QB (transfer portal)
  • Kaden Dudley, RB (transfer portal)
  • Sire Gaines, RB (injury)
  • Chris Marshall, WR (injury)
  • Jackson Grier, WR (transfer portal)

  • Demanuel Brown, DL (transfer portal)
  • Udoka Ezeani, LB (transfer portal)
  • Wyatt Milkovic, LB (transfer portal)
  • Khai Taylor, CB (transfer portal)
  • Dionte Thornton, S (transfer portal)
  • Gabe Tahir, S (transfer portal)

Penn State

  • Beau Pribula, QB (transfer portal)
  • Feyisayo Oluleye, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jerry Cross, TE (transfer portal)
  • T.A. Cunningham, DL (transfer portal)
  • Zuriah Fisher, DL (injury)
  • Anthony Donkoh, OL (injury)
  • Kevin Winston, S (injury)

Backup quarterback Beau Pribula was more than your run-of-the-mill second-stringer, leading a run-heavy package for the Nittany Lions and scoring four times this season. He will not play for Penn State, unlike other Playoff backups in the portal, leaving the Nittany Lions with either Drew Allar trying to create that change of pace or do-everything tight end Tyler Warren lining up as a wildcat.

ReliaQuest Bowl

Tuesday, Dec. 31

The following players will not participate in the ReliaQuest Bowl:

Alabama

  • Damon Payne, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jaylen Mbakwe, DB (transfer portal)
  • Dylan Lonergan, QB (transfer portal)
  • Justice Haynes, RB (transfer portal)
  • Hunter Osborne, DL (transfer portal)
  • Kobe Prentice, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jahlil Hurley, CB (transfer portal)
  • Keanu Koht, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Jaheim Oatis, DL (transfer portal)

Alabama backup running back Justice Haynes, the No. 2 RB recruit in the class of 2023, announced that he will enter the transfer portal, leaving the Crimson Tide thin in the backfield behind Junior RB Jam Miller.

Michigan

  • Donovan Edwards, RB (NFL draft)
  • Andrew Gentry, OT (transfer portal)
  • Cole Cabana, RB (transfer portal)
  • Tommy Doman, P (transfer portal)
  • Raheem Anderson, OL (transfer portal)
  • Tavierre Dunlap, RB (transfer portal)
  • Christian Boivin, LB (transfer portal)

Sun Bowl

Tuesday, Dec. 31

The following players will not participate in the Sun Bowl:

Louisville

  • Tyler Shough, QB (NFL draft)
  • Brady Allen, QB (transfer portal)
  • Jimmy Calloway, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jaleel Skinner, TE (transfer portal)
  • Benjamin Perry, S (transfer portal)
  • Jahlil McClain, WR (transfer portal)
  • Maurice Turner, RB (transfer portal)
  • Jadon Thompson, WR (transfer portal)
  • Donald Chaney Jr., RB (transfer portal)
  • Madden Sanker, OL (transfer portal)
  • Mason Reiger, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Aaron Williams, CB (transfer portal)
  • Devin Neal, S (transfer portal)

Tyler Shough opted out of the Sun Bowl to prepare for the NFL draft. Set aside the veracity of that dream, losing Shough will disrupt the Cardinals’ offense, one predicated on explosive pass plays heavily reliant on timing and touch.

Washington

  • Lance Holtzclaw, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Byrun Parham, LB (transfer portal)
  • Kahlee Tafai, OT (transfer portal)

Citrus Bowl

Tuesday, Dec. 31

The following players will not participate in the Citrus Bowl:

  • Enyce Sledge, DL (transfer portal)
  • Nate Guinn, TE (transfer portal)

Texas Bowl

  • Johntay Cook II, WR (transfer portal)
  • Kelvin Banks, OL (injury - questionable)
  • Aaron Bryant, DL (transfer portal)
  • Jaray Bledsoe, DL (transfer portal)
  • Justice Finkley, DL (transfer portal)
  • Sydir Mitchell, DL (transfer portal)
  • Tausili Akana, DL (transfer portal)
  • Tiaoalii Savea, DL (transfer portal)
  • Derion Gullette, LB (transfer portal)
  • Jay'Vion Cole, CB (transfer portal)
  • Derek Williams, S (injury)

  • Josh Simmons, OL (injury)
  • Miles Walker, OL (transfer portal)
  • Seth McLaughlin, OL (injury)
  • Zen Michalski, OL (transfer portal)
  • Gabe Powers, LB (transfer portal)

Georgia

  • Carson Beck, QB (injury - questionable)
  • Branson Robinson, RB (injury - questionable)
  • Chauncey Bowens, RB (injury - questionable)
  • Trevor Etienne, RB (injury - questionable)
  • Colbie Young, WR (suspension)

  • Benjamin Morrison, CB (injury)
  • Chance Tucker, CB (injury)
  • Jaden Mickey, CB (transfer portal)
  • Taebron Bennie-Powell, S (injury)

Gator Bowl

Thursday, Jan. 2

The following players will not participate in the Gator Bowl:

Duke

  • Malik Murphy, QB (transfer portal)

The Blue Devils may have already found their 2025 replacement at quarterback in Tulane transfer Darian Mensah, but they will be rather adrift in the Gator Bowl without Malik Murphy. Duke struggles to string together successful rushes, so the offense as a whole may stall out sans Murphy.

Mississippi

  • Key Lawrence, S (transfer portal)

First Responder Bowl

Friday, Jan. 3

The following players will not participate in the First Responder Bowl:

North Texas

  • Chandler Morris, QB (transfer portal)
  • Gabe Blair, OL (transfer portal)
  • Jeremiah Aaron, WR (transfer portal)
  • Kortlin Rausaw, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • David Spruiells, S (transfer portal)

The Mean Green throw the ball more often than most, No. 9 in the country in frequency if considering game state. Without Chandler Morris, North Texas will turn to true freshman Drew Mestemaker with five career pass attempts.

Texas State

  • Joshua Eaton, CB (transfer portal)

Duke's Mayo Bowl

Friday, Jan. 3

The following players will not participate in the Duke's Mayo Bowl:

Minnesota

  • Tyler Stolsky, LB (transfer portal)
  • Jordan Nubin, RB (transfer portal)
  • Sieh Bangura, RB (transfer portal)
  • Hayden Schwartz, DL (transfer portal)
  • Luther McCoy, DL (transfer portal)
  • Craig McDonald, S (transfer portal)

Virginia Tech

  • Kyron Drones, QB (injury)
  • Mansoor Delane, DB (transfer portal)
  • Mose Phillips, DB (transfer portal)
  • Braelin Moore, OL (transfer portal)
  • Jalen Stroman, S (transfer portal)
  • Keli Lawson, OLB (transfer portal)

Hokies head coach Brent Pry has been coy with Drones' injuries for the better part of two months now, but on Dec. 18, he started to acknowledge how beat up Drones is. There is no official word, but do not expect him to play in the Duke's Mayo Bowl.

Bahamas Bowl

Saturday, Jan. 4

The following players will not participate in the Bahamas Bowl:

Buffalo

  • Nik McMillan, WR (injury)

Liberty

  • Kaidon Salter, QB (transfer portal)
  • Kylen Austin, WR (transfer portal)
  • Jordan White, OL (transfer portal)
  • Bryce Dixon, DL (transfer portal)
  • James Jointer Jr., RB (transfer portal)
  • Xavior Gray, OT (transfer portal)

Kaidon Salter did not have a strong 2024, part of why Liberty ran the ball more often than all but six other teams in the country when considering game state. Losing Salter will not be ideal, but the Flames’ offense may produce, anyway.

Douglas Farmer
Betting Analyst

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
