The Tennessee Volunteers will look to make a statement on Saturday, as they host the Ole Miss Rebels at Neyland Stadium. The Vols have won three of four ahead of their meeting with the Rebels in Knoxville, and a win over Ole Miss would be their biggest yet.

The total in this game opened at a ridiculous 78.0, but it apparently wasn’t absurd enough. Since then, this thing has moved all the way up to 82.5 on some books, despite most of the bets thus far coming in on the Under. As for the spread, the Volunteers were 3-point underdogs at open but have since moved to as little as 2-point underdogs on some sites. Ole Miss vs Tennessee predictions

Only five teams in football are rushing for more yards per game than the Volunteers this season, as Tennessee is racking up 253.7 yards per contest. The Vols had a tough time deciding on a quarterback earlier in the year, but the team has former Virginia Tech signal-caller Hendon Hooker back there now. Not only does Hooker have 1,063 yards with 13 touchdowns and just one interception as a passer, but he has also rushed for 282 yards and three touchdowns thus far. His ability to run the ball is special at the quarterback position, and it has opened up lanes for Tennessee’s stable of talented running backs to make plays on the ground.

The fact that the Vols can run so effectively should be huge in a meeting with a fast-paced Rebels offense. The Rebels have been better defensively this year than they were in 2020, but they’re not currently in a position where they can stop a Tennessee offense that has scored at least 45 points in three of the last four weeks. This Volunteers team is firing on all cylinders and can undoubtedly keep up with Lane Kiffin’s group in this one.

The hope for Tennessee is that the defense will be able to step up and get a big stop or two when it’s needed most. The Volunteers have looked solid on that side of the ball over the last two weeks, as the team has given up just 22.0 points per game in that span. Those games were, however, against the Missouri Tigers and South Carolina Gamecocks. This Ole Miss offense is an entirely different animal and it’s hard to imagine them not scoring at least 35 points in this game.

Still, the Volunteers have home-field advantage in this game and the building should be rocking for this massive Saturday night showdown. The Volunteers haven’t lost to the Rebels in Knoxville in the history of this head-to-head series, and that doesn’t look likely to change here. Tennessee isn’t just a good play with the spread, but the team should win outright here.

A total this high definitely raises eyebrows, which is why a majority of bettors are jumping on the Under here. However, the sharp money is clearly coming in on the Over, as this number just keeps getting higher. Also, when something looks this out of whack, it’s best to just turn a blind eye and roll with it.

Overall, it’s not that hard to envision this game turning into one of the most exciting shootouts of the year. Over the last two weeks, the Volunteers are averaging 53.5 points per game and they’re facing a Rebels offense that is averaging more points per game than all but three teams in the country. Considering neither of these two play much defense, there’s just no reason to see it stopping now.

It’s also worth noting that the Over is 5-2 when Ole Miss has played as a favorite under Kiffin. It’s also 3-1 in Tennessee home games this year.
