After a loss to the Eastern Washington Eagles, the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels travel to Tempe, Arizona for a meeting with the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday, September 11.
The Rebels are going to be fuming when they take the field for this one, as they’ll be extremely embarrassed after losing to an FCS team last week. They are, however, facing a Top-25 program in this one, so there’s no guarantee that this won’t get out of hand.
Will the Rebels find a way to hang around in Tempe? Keep reading our UNLV vs. Arizona State picks and predictions to find out.

That means the sharps are likely backing the Under. As for the spread, it appears to be something somewhat similar. A majority of the bets seem to be on UNLV, but the Rebels have moved from +33.0 to +34.5.

UNLV vs Arizona State predictions
Arizona State -34.0 (-110)
Last week, the Rebels gave up 35 points against their FCS opponent, and Eastern Washington kicker Seth Harrison left nine points on the board with three missed field goals. Meanwhile, Eagles quarterback Eric Barriere threw two interceptions in the game, and the team also lost a fumble. The point here is that Eastern Washington easily could have scored a heck of a lot more, so this UNLV defense really has no idea what it’s in for against Arizona State.
The Sun Devils didn’t cover in their season opener against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, who also play in the FCS. Arizona State did, however, thoroughly dominate its opponent in that one, winning 41-14 and rushing for 222 yards while giving up a total of 224 yards of offense. Sun Devils running back Rachaad White picked up right where he left off last season, rushing for two touchdowns and 58 yards on only seven carries. DeaMonte Trayanum added another 52 yards and two scores on six carries, while dual-threat quarterback Jayden Daniels rushed for 40 himself — he only threw for 132 yards in the game, but he was 10 for 12 and his arm wasn’t needed.
With that type of production in the running game, it’s hard to envision the Rebels finding a way to stop the Sun Devils from churning out yards on the ground. Also, after a slow night through the air last week, look for Arizona State to make it a point to air it out with Daniels a bit more. The Sun Devils will need to feel good about that part of the offense before facing real competition.
Defensively, Arizona State was excellent against Southern Utah last week. The Sun Devils didn’t let the Thunderbirds get it going in any facet of the game, and they also forced Southern Utah quarterback Justin Miller into three interceptions. Facing a similar level of competition in this one, look for the Sun Devils to be relentless on the defensive side of the ball.
Over 53.0 (-110)
The Sun Devils pushed on their total a week ago, nailing the 55 Over/Under. That game did, however, end up being higher-scoring than this one is projected to be, but it’s not exactly clear why the oddsmakers are putting such a low number on this matchup.
Last week, UNLV played a game that saw 68 total points on the board, and the team was able to move the ball on the ground. Rebels running back Charles Williams rushed for 172 yards and two scores in that game, and he’s going to find some room in this one. He won’t run with nearly the same efficiency as he did a week ago, but Williams is capable of breaking one and either scoring himself or putting his team in a position to do so.
If UNLV can put up some points, this Over will easily hit. Arizona State’s offense should be unstoppable against this level of competition.
