Chargers vs Jets Odds, Picks, and Predictions for MNF: Hall Shocks Bolts In the Air

Breece Hall has played an integral role in Gang Green's offense, but he hasn't just been doing all his damage in the trenches. Our NFL picks expect another busy day in the air for Hall against a sus Chargers defense on MNF.

Monday Night Football is a coast-to-coast contest with the Los Angeles Chargers crossing the country to face the New York Jets in tonight's NFL odds finale for Week 9.

New York rides a three-game winning streak into this prime-time clash, leaning heavily into a defense that sits among the Top 10 stop units in many measurements so far this season. Gang Green has bottled opponents up, allowing a combined 45 points during this winning run.

Los Angeles is desperate for any momentum, entering Week 9 with a 3-4 straight-up record. The Chargers scored 30 in last week's win, but this offense has been far too inconsistent to make up for a punchless defense. That said, the Bolts have given up 20 points or less in three of their last four.

I break down the spread and Over/Under total for Monday Night Football and give my best NFL picks for Chargers vs. Jets on Monday, November 6.

Chargers vs Jets predictions

The New York Jets’ surprise success the past month can come down to two things: running the ball and defense.

New York has taken a ton of pressure off quarterback Zach Wilson to carry the offense with the way it hit the ground, which has in turn slowed this offense down and allowed Gang Green to chew up the clock and give the stop unit a well-deserved rest.

The emergence of RB Breece Hall is anchoring this attack, with the second-year stud getting back to full health after returning from a knee injury that cost him the 2022 season. Hall has been breaking off big gains on the ground — sitting tops in yards per carry and yards after contact — but he’s also discovering a burgeoning role in the Jets passing playbook as well.

Breece Hall odds for Monday Night Football have his receiving yards total bouncing between 17.5 and 20.5 yards O/U — a mark he’s blown out of the water the past two weeks. Hall was targeted nine times against the Giants’ blitz-heavy defense last weekend, hauling in five passes and picking up 76 receiving yards (while rushing for only 17 yards).

In fact, he’s caught 11 of 14 passes his way for a total of 130 yards receiving in the past two weeks. Hall has seen his snap counts jump into those last two games, with 10 total snaps either in the slot or out wide as a receiver. He had only three total snaps at receiver in the previous five games.

Hall has a great matchup to continue that receiving success in Week 9. Los Angeles not only enters as one of the worst passing defenses in the league but is allowing the fifth most receiving yards to running backs in 2023.

The Bolts give up the sixth most yards after the catch to receivers and Hall is at his best shedding would-be tacklers and adding on additional yards after contact. To make matters worse for L.A., it could be down starting linebackers Eric Kendricks and Kenneth Murray Jr., who are vital to stopping the run as well as covering pass-catching RBs.

Player projections for Hall call for a solid day through the air for the Jets’ standout running back, with the bulk of models calling for 25 yards or more, with my number coming out to 26.5 receiving yards. His ceiling for this battle with the Bolts is as high as 36.5 yards.

My best bet: Breece Hall Over 20.5 receiving yards (-114 at FanDuel)

Hall has taken on a big role as a receiving and faces a Bolts defense getting burned by dual-threat RBs. His targets have spiked as the Jets use Hall in the slot and out wide a lot more in the past two games.

The Jets have allowed five TDs to tight ends. With Josh Palmer out and Gerald Everett back after missing Week 8, he steps up in the receiving pecking order. He’s caught a TD in each of his past two games before sitting out last Sunday.

Chargers vs Jets spread and Over/Under analysis

The spread for Monday Night Football opened as low as Los Angeles -2 last Sunday night and moved to a field goal by Monday afternoon. From there, play on the Chargers pushed the line off the key number to as high as Bolts -3.5.

As of Sunday morning, the spread is available -3 to -3.5. Covers Consensus shows split play on the Monday nighter, with 51% of picks taking the points with New York. However, sportsbooks like BetMGM are reporting 55% of bets and 57% of money riding on the Jets. My NFL power ratings produced a projected spread of Chargers -3.5.

The Jets' defense has kept them in games, entering Week 9 ranked sixth in Defensive DVOA and eighth in EPA allowed per play. New York has relied on a ferocious pass rush that sits tops in the NFL in pressure rate and hasn’t allowed opposing passers the time to manufacture longer plays (giving up 4.8 yards per attempt during this streak).

That unit will test a Chargers attack still trying to find its footing in a new system under offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. This new playbook has produced results but not every Sunday and while we’ve seen the Bolts beat up bad defenses, they’ve come up short against solids stop units in the losses to Dallas and Kansas City.

The Over/Under for Monday Night Football hit the board at 42.5 points and has since slimmed to as low as 39 at some sportsbooks.

The Chargers’ underperforming offense has led to a series of Under results for L.A., bringing a 2-5 O/U record into MetLife Stadium. As for New York, it’s 3-4 O/U on the year, going 1-3 O/U in East Rutherford.

The forecast for Monday night is calling for calm conditions with wind gusts of only 9 mph and game-time temperatures in the mid-40s.

Chargers vs Jets betting trend to know

Since moving to L.A., the Chargers are a profitable 31-19-5 ATS on the road (61%). However, make the Bolts road favorites, and that record slims to 11-9-2 ATS (55%). Find more NFL betting trends for Chargers vs. Jets.
