One of the biggest QB matchups of the year is Saturday night, when Justin Herbert takes on Russell Wilson a... wait. This is a preseason game, and the Los Angeles Chargers had already decided Herbert wasn't going to play in the preseason while the Seattle Seahawks star may or may not make an appearance.
Regardless, there's still NFL betting action to be had when the Chargers and Seahawks meet at Lumen Field in Seattle. This will be their final preseason games before the start of the NFL regular season, so both of these teams will want to go into the year on a positive note.
Will Los Angeles hang around against Seattle without most of its starters? Find out in our Chargers vs. Seahawks preseason picks and predictions for Saturday, August 28, with kickoff set for 10:00 p.m. ET.

Against the spread (ATS) pick
The Chargers made an early decision not to play Justin Herbert in the preseason, yet the Seahawks will likely try to get Russell Wilson a couple of snaps in this game. When you combine that with the fact that Los Angeles is resting a bunch of other starters, it’s not hard to explain why this line has moved like crazy since opening with Seattle as only a 1-point favorite.
While it’s hard to back a team that isn’t taking the game very seriously, this spread still feels a little disrespectful to a Chargers team that has gotten some solid performances out of its backups throughout the preseason. Sure, any downs that Wilson plays can turn into points for the Seahawks, but Los Angeles has the edge over Seattle over the course of an entire game.
The play at quarterback should end up being the determining factor in this game. Los Angeles has reliable veteran Chase Daniel behind Herbert, and the Chargers know they can count on him to move the ball against second-string players. Meanwhile, Easton Stick has also been extremely impressive for Brandon Staley’s team. He has great size for the position and doesn’t make mistakes with the football, so he could end up being the X-factor here. Stick is a legitimate option to win the backup job over Daniel, so both of these guys are going to be giving 100 percent... even late in a preseason game.
The two potential backups will also go against a Seahawks defense that hasn’t been impressive thus far, as Seattle has given up 50 points through two preseason games.
PREDICTION: Chargers +5.5 (-110)
Over/Under pick
A good way of betting the preseason is taking the Under in games in which the starting quarterbacks won’t get a lot of playing time... but this one feels like an exception.
The Chargers were able to move the ball with Stick under center last game, and he figures to see a ton of playing time in this one. Considering he’ll be facing a Seahawks team that hasn’t been able to stop anyone in the preseason, that seems like a good recipe for points.
Seattle should also be able to put up a decent number, as the team will go from Wilson to Geno Smith, who has experience as a starter in this league. One would think that Smith should be able to manufacture a successful drive or two against a defense full of bench players.
PREDICTION: Over 35.5 (-110)
