Ducey's Best Bet: The Philadelphia Eagles are rolling right now, winners of eight straight games. Back the Eagles' D to keep the Panthers' offense in check.

One of the best teams in the NFL will meet one of the worst on Sunday when the Carolina Panthers make a quick trip north to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

With some big injuries mounting on the Eagles’ side and Carolina playing their first true road game in five weeks, my Panthers vs. Eagles predictions have both sides struggling for offense.

Read below for my free NFL picks for Sunday, December 8. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with the game airing on FOX.

Panthers vs Eagles prediction

Who will win Panthers vs Eagles?

The Eagles have been running through everyone in the league behind Saquon Barkley, and nothing much should change on Sunday against one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL.

Carolina’s shown some positive signs on offense in recent weeks despite back-to-back losses, but it’s leaned heavily on the pass which should make for a tough matchup here against one of the highest-grading secondaries in football.

Philly should control this one from start to finish, and if it shuts down this newfound Panthers passing offense as expected, there should be no way in for the Panthers who stand little chance of stopping this Eagles ground game.

My best bet
Pick: Under 46 (-110 at BetMGM)

My analysis
The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense enters this game with the ability to control the proceedings as the best unit on the field. They sit atop the league in Weighted DVOA, and rank first according to Pro Football Focus, putting the Carolina Panthers – who have been bereft of offense — in a spot of bother this week.

The wild card here is the mounting form of the Panthers, who have done good work in the last two weeks offensively after winning two straight, but the meat of their performance came through the air.

Carolina has registered six or more net yards per attempt two weeks running, but it will meet the fourth-best pass defense in the league which has ranked just 25th in pass-play rate against it. Teams have been fearful of throwing on Philly, and that would seem to mean the run of form here for Carolina — which has leaned heavily on the pass — will come to an end.

The Eagles should have a clear way in on defense, but they’ll have an even more sizable edge here against the second-worst rushing defense in the NFL by DVOA.

The Panthers have now allowed over six yards per carry in back-to-back weeks, with the saving grace of an excellent performance by this secondary in both contests. Well, the Eagles throw the ball at the lowest rate in the league, and this menacing backfield should have no issues moving the ball on the ground with how the Panthers have looked.

What does this all mean? Well, we should see a heavy dose of the run in this game, at least through one quarter for Carolina, and even though the visitors have figured things out through the air in recent weeks I’m not confident we’ll see an offensive outburst here.

Factor in, too, that Dallas Goedert will miss this game to take away yet another weapon for Jalen Hurts and I think we’ll see plenty of clock bleed as both teams run right at each other.

Panthers vs Eagles same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 46

Saquon Barkley Over 110.5 rushing yards

David Moore Over 3.5 receptions

The equation here is quite simple given what we laid out above, and that’s to find a way to back the Eagles to run the ball down Carolina’s throat.

I’m keeping things simple here and taking Saquon Barkley to eclipse 110 yards, something he’s now done in three of his last five games. He’s averaging over 124 rushing yards per game, and with 23 or more rushing attempts in three straight games, a soft matchup, and a positive game script we can expect plenty more totes here.

Against a Panthers team allowing 4.8 yards per carry and over six per tote in the last two, the math would seem to be greatly in our favor.

I’m also going to back David Moore to make four or more catches, considering the Eagles’ only slight weakness on defense has been defending outside receivers. With a strong slot corner in Cooper DeJean to blanket Adam Thielen, and an increased focus against the veteran, I think Moore should continue to find himself open and get more targets here after getting 19 balls in the last two weeks.

Passing has been the only thing working for Carolina, and even if it’s limited in what it’s able to do through the air, Moore should be peppered.
