NFL Week 17 Bet Now, Bet Later: Bet Green Bay Before it Reaches Key Number

The Packers host the Vikings this week with a chance to end their season. The line opened at 6.5 but should quickly reach the key touchdown number — act now on GB before it's too late. This and more in our Bet Now-Bet later picks for Week 17.

The 2021 season stretches into 2022 when NFL Week 17 betting wraps up. It may be a new year, but our methods remain the same: get the best odds for your opinion.

We help you do that by monitoring the opening spreads and totals, measuring public perception, and paying attention to the early action. That helps us narrow down the best NFL Week 17 odds to bet now and the best lines to bet later.

Of course, with COVID making a mess of the final weeks of NFL betting, placing wagers early can come with some risk.

The Packers are pushing for the No. 1 seed in the NFC and also hold the postseason fate of a hated division rival in their hands at home in Week 17. Green Bay opened -6.5 for this NFC North showcase on Sunday Night Football and will be moving to a touchdown sooner rather than later.

Green Bay enjoys an extra day off due to playing Cleveland on Saturday and while the Cheeseheads didn’t look great in their Christmas Day outing (as well as Week 15’s squeaker over Baltimore), this is Aaron Rodgers inside Lambeau Field in primetime with a revenge angle, as Green Bay lost to Minnesota in Week 11.

The Vikings are coming off a 30-23 home loss to the L.A. Rams in Week 16. Receiver Adam Thielen reaggravated his ankle injury and was limited in the second half and all eyes will be on him and RB Dalvin Cook, who missed Week 16 due to COVID (unvaccinated). Some books are already ticked up to Packers -7 (-105), so if you’re saying “yeah” to Green Bay – bet it now below the key number.

Books opened Seattle as large as a 9-point favorite at home to Detroit in Week 17, and that spread quickly sunk to -8 with some -7.5 spreads showing in the minutes following post. And why not? The Seahawks are coming off a bad loss to Chicago in the snow at Lumen Field and have nothing to play for in these final games of the schedule.

The Lions, on the other hand, are gaining public love with the way they contend each and every week – no matter who’s in or out. They’ve covered in six of their last seven outings, including a 20-16 loss as 7.5-point pups at Atlanta. Detroit could have starting QB Jared Goff back for Week 17 and possibly RB D’Andre Swift as well.

However, this trip to Emerald City is the second straight road stop for Dan Campbell’s crew and their third roadie in the past four weeks. This is the home finale for the Seahawks, who blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to the Bears. If you still have faith in Seattle, wait and see how low this spread goes before placing your wager.

This total opened anywhere from 47.5 to 46.5 points, and I expect it to tick down quickly with early play on the Under.

The Colts continue to ground and pound teams into submission, giving up a grand total of just 33 points in the last three games. Indianapolis owns an average time of possession of 35:48 in that span, which has taken the pressure off the defense. When the stop unit does see the field, the Colts' defense is a dangerous group that forces turnovers (31 takeaways) but also stands tall on third downs.

Las Vegas’ offense has been stuck in the mud for weeks now, scoring more than 17 points just once in the past eight outings. The Raiders will also be playing their third road game in the past four weeks when they come to Indy in Week 17.

This interesting AFC matchup is a potential fireworks show, considering the company at quarterback. The Patrick Mahomes vs. Joe Burrow angle is already puffing up this Over/Under, with some online books up from 48 to 49 points. This number will likely flirt with 50 points after these two QBs put on a show in Week 16, helping their teams score a collective 77 points.

You can’t deny the playmakers on the field, but the Chiefs don’t want to turn this game into a shootout on the road. Kansas City is the hottest team in the NFL, having won seven straight games. But those victories were built on the back of the defense, which ranks No. 4 in EPA allowed per play (-0.126) since Week 8.

The Bengals’ big-play ability was on display in their one-sided win over Baltimore on Sunday, but the Kansas City pass rush won’t give Burrow time for those home runs to develop. The Chiefs create the fourth most pressure on opposing passers per dropback while Cincinnati has allowed Burrow to get sacked 44 times this season – 17 of those in the past four outings.

If you wonder about the Under, wait for this total to tick upwards before buying back the inflated number later in the week.
