Who's ready for Game 2 between the St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets?

Robert Thomas was one of the most prolific passers in the sport during the regular season, finishing tied for ninth in the NHL with 60 assists.

While Thomas did not pick one up in the series opener, my Blues vs. Jets predictions are backing the team’s top center to get back on track in Game 2.

Let’s dive deeper into my NHL picks for April 21.

Who will win Blues vs Jets Game 2?

The Winnipeg Jets have owned the St. Louis Blues in recent years, winning seven of the last eight matchups — including four of five since October.

Winnipeg certainly looked the better team in Game 1, winning the chance battle by 13 despite missing a couple of key players in Gabriel Vilardi and Nikolaj Ehlers.

Even though some of the Blues' top players (like Thomas) seem to produce against the Jets consistently, it’s usually the latter picking up the win. It’s hard to argue against that happening again in Game 2.

My Blues vs Jets pick: Robert Thomas Over 0.5 assists (-130 at BET99)

Robert Thomas was an assist machine during the regular season. He recorded at least one apple in 62% of his games, including 24 of his final 29 to end the year. That’s a ridiculous 83% hit rate down the stretch.

The Jets were one of the best defensive teams in the league all year long, and even they struggled mightily to slow Thomas down, with the star playmaker picking up an assist in all four regular-season meetings.

Thomas was held assist-less in the opening game of this series, but it wasn’t for a lack of opportunity.

St. Louis generated 17 shot attempts and eight scoring chances with Thomas on the ice during 5-on-5 play. Both outputs were the best on the team.

Thomas also played on the primary power play unit that registered a couple of scoring chances during his minutes.

The puck is always on Thomas’ stick, and he has the vision and passing ability to make the right play consistently. Even in defeat, he was able to help the Blues tilt the ice and create chances during his minutes. Goals tend to follow.

Considering Thomas' incredible assist rate — even against the Presidents’ Trophy winners — and the kind of usage he’ll see with the Blues attempting to avoid a 0-2 hole, I like Thomas’ chances of picking up a helper in Game 2.

Blues vs Jets same-game parlay (SGP)

Robert Thomas Over 0.5 assists

Pavel Buchnevich anytime goal

Mark Scheifele Over 0.5 assists

Pavel Buchnevich finished the season scorching hot, scoring in six of his final nine games — including the head-to-head finale against the Jets.

Buchnevich didn’t score in Game 1, but he had some looks, finishing tied for the team lead in scoring chances with three.

Buchnevich plays with the pass-happy Thomas at 5-on-5 as well as on the power play, meaning he should continue to have ample opportunity to rip the puck in dangerous shooting locations.

On the opposite side, Mark Scheifele is a strong candidate to have another good offensive game. He was spoon-feeding Kyle Connor passes all game long in the opener, with Winnipeg’s top sniper recording 11 shot attempts — six more than any other player on the team.

Scheifele has piled up 11 assists over his last nine home games and owns a great track record against the Blues, picking up an apple in three straight.
