My Canadiens analysis
The Montreal Canadiens will turn to backup Jakub Dobes against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, and this is a tough schedule spot for the Habs. Montreal is hitting the ice for the second leg of a back-to-back road set, and this is also the final stop of a four-game roadie.
As a result, I anticipate the recent possession and shots mismatch to play out at Climate Pledge Arena, with the Seattle Kraken peppering Dobes with rubber early and often tonight.
Montreal sports a 31st-ranked 43.5 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five since the 4 Nations Face-Off break, while Seattle sits eighth with a 52.0 mark. The Kraken have also averaged the eighth-most shots per game (29.4) since the layoff.
Dobes has looked the part of an NHL goaltender to start his career, too. He’s posted a .913 SV%, 2.49 GAA, and 0.54 goals saved above average per 60 minutes. A 2.2 goalie point share across just 11 appearances also impresses.
The Canadiens have spent the most time shorthanded per game (5:18) this season, creating an opportunity for Seattle to tilt the ice further in their favor on special teams and generate additional shots with the man advantage.
