Red Wings vs Devils Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Devils can't move up the standings with a win and a loss won't drop them, so the important thing is getting into the playoffs without risking further injury. This has us targeting the Red Wings on the moneyline.

The New Jersey Devils conclude their regular season schedule with a date against the Detroit Red Wings.

My Red Wings vs. Devils predictions expect the home side to prioritize health and rest in this game, playing into the hands of a Detroit squad looking to finish the year on a high.

Let’s break down my NHL picks for Wednesday, April 16.

Red Wings vs Devils prediction

My best bet: Red Wings moneyline (-135 at bet365)

My analysis
The New Jersey Devils have nothing to play for tonight. They are locked into a first-round matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes and can’t move up or down in the standings. There is nothing to gain from going full-tilt against Detroit — but a lot to lose.

The Devils have already been devastated by injuries in the second half. Dynamic front-line center Jack Hughes was lost for the season, defensive stalwart Jonas Siegenthaler hasn’t played since January, and Dougie Hamilton is nearing a return from an injury suffered in early March.

New Jersey looked the part of a contender before all of those injuries. Now, especially without Hughes, making noise in the playoffs is much more difficult.

The last thing the Devils want is to lose another key player from their lineup in the final game of the season.

As such, there will no doubt be quality players resting in the finale. Head coach Sheldon Keefe admitted a few days ago he’d be lying if he didn’t say the most important thing was finishing the season healthy. Expect him to take precautions with the Game 82 lineup as a result.

On the other side, all systems go for the Detroit Red Wings. They have won four of the last six games and seem determined to finish the year strong under Todd McLellan.

They will have a full arsenal of weapons available for this game and have no reason to play with caution, knowing months of rest are just around the corner. Expect that to be the difference.

Red Wings vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)

Red Wings moneyline

Dylan Larkin Over 0.5 points

Lucas Raymond Over 0.5 assists

Dylan Larkin is heating back up following a bit of a dry spell. He has produced six points over his last six games and hit the scoresheet in four of them, failing only against two elite teams (Florida and Tampa Bay) who, at the time, were still playing for something.

He should have an easier time against a Devils squad that has conceded four or more in three of the past four games and has nothing riding on this game.

Larkin has a fantastic track record against the Devils as well, producing 12 points over the last nine head-to-head meetings.

Lucas Raymond has assists in 46% of Detroit’s games this season and 61% of victories. A +135 price point, implying a 42% probability, seems well off given the circumstances of the game and the fact Detroit is favored to win.
