Two of the three National League division leaders will square off Tuesday night when the Chicago Cubs host the defending World Series champions in the first of two games.

My Dodgers vs. Cubs predictions expect fireworks, with one of the league’s most dominant batters against left-handed pitchers playing a key role. Let’s dive into my April 22 MLB picks.

Dodgers vs Cubs prediction

My Dodgers vs Cubs best bet: Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (-135 at bet365)

Teoscar Hernandez mashes left-handed pitching. It’s his bread and butter. On a stacked team featuring superstar bats like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, it was Hernandez who dominated lefties the most a season ago.

He hit .305 against left-handed pitching with a .311 ISO and .407 wOBA. He bested all everyday Dodgers batters in each of those three categories. He's picked up where he left off this season. Through just 22 plate appearances, Hernandez has already hit four singles, a pair of doubles, and three longballs. He’s sporting an absurd .429 average against lefties, albeit over a small sample.

Odds are, he can piece together at least one quality at-bat and hit in this game. If that’s the case, his chances of cashing in a runner — or scoring himself — are pretty good considering all the star-level talent surrounding him in the batting order.

Although Shota Imanaga is an excellent pitcher, he does perform worse against right-handed batters than left-handed batters. Righties hit .226 against Imanaga last season compared to .212 for lefties. The gap in average between the two is even larger this season.

Not to mention, Imanaga has only lasted more than five innings in two of five starts this season. After facing a lefty — although a good one — Hernandez can also look forward to an at-bat or two against a struggling Chicago Cubs bullpen that owns the fifth-highest ERA, and third-highest WHIP, on the season.

Dodgers vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Mookie Betts Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Kyle Tucker Over 0.5 hits

Mookie Betts recorded at least two hits + runs + RBI in 58% of his games last season. He sits at a solid 50% hit rate this year despite entering play having cleared his line in only two of the last nine. He's one of the best hitters in the sport and is surrounded by elite talent, so this quiet stretch simply can’t last much longer.

Notably, Betts posted a hit rate 11% higher on the road last season — the same gap as this year to date. There’s probably something to that! If Betts can get on base, Hernandez won’t be far behind, so I love the correlation between the two hitters.

Sticking with star bats, Kyle Tucker is another name that pops off the page. He’s hitting .302 on the season and has only gone back-to-back games without a knock once. Excluding the fake home game to start the campaign, Tucker has registered 12 hits in 10 home games thus far.
