After a franchise-first sweep through the California teams, the Vancouver Canucks return home and kick off a 6-game homestand against the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton is fifth in the Pacific division standings, looking up at Vancouver, though it's the hometown team that's a slight -105 moneyline underdog in the NHL odds.

With the Oilers clearly, in post-Stanley Cup hangover mode, my Oilers vs. Canucks predictions has the home team finally carrying that road momentum back at Rogers Arena.

Read on as I explain my NHL picks for Saturday, November 9.

My Canucks analysis

It's the first time these teams have met since the Edmonton Oilers dispatched the Vancouver Canucks in Round 2 of the playoffs last year.

But since a 0-1-2 start to the year, Vancouver has taken off, going 7-1-1 over their next nine games.

Much of that success has been away from home, though, where they have now reeled off six straight following a 4-2 win over the L.A. Kings.

That win did come with some bad news, as goal-scoring leader Brock Boeser (upper body) took a blindside hit in the first period and did not return. His status for Saturday is still unknown.

Losing Boeser doesn't help as Vancouver tries to straighten out its play at home, where it has just one win in five starts, giving up 4.4 goals per game, while tallying just 2.2 of their own.

Edmonton is just over its biggest injury issue, as star Connor McDavid is back after suffering an ankle injury that shelved him for three games.

He went pointless in his return as the Oilers dropped their second straight in a 4-2 loss to Vegas.

Edmonton, who led for much of the contest, couldn't land the plane, surrendering the game-winner with less than a minute left in regulation.

Offensively, the Oilers are 31st in scoring, putting up just 2.36 goals per game. They'll be going against a Vancouver side that ranks eighth in GAA at 2.92 per contest.

This is a team that was seventh in the regular season last year and scored a playoff-high 86 goals in 25 games – 13 clear of the next nearest team.

That pop gun offense is not covering a defense that's just outside the Bottom 10, allowing 3.21 goals per game. Edmonton has not yet won a game this year scoring two goals or less, going 0-7-1.

Stuart Skinner has had a rough start to the year for Edmonton, going 3-5-1 with a 3.28 GAA and .885 save percentage. He's 1-4 all-time vs the Canucks, with a 4.04 GAA and .855 save percentage.

Vancouver swept last year's 4-game regular-season series, three as the moneyline underdog.

They're in prime position to exact some revenge from that playoff ousting, as the Oilers try to turn the on switch for this season.

Canucks vs Oilers Over/Under analysis

  • The road team has won in eight of the Canucks' last nine games.
  • Edmonton has been a betting favorite on the moneyline in 12 games this year, going 5-7-0 in those games.
  • The Oilers have cashed the Under in four straight and in nine of their last 10 games.
  • Vancouver's Over record is 3-2-0 in five home games this season.
