The Winnipeg Jets travel to Calgary to face the Flames in the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Jets have won four of their last five games, while the Flames are in the midst of a massive losing streak.

Still, oddsmakers have the Flames as the strong moneyline favorites. Can the Jets get the best out of Calgary, or will the Flames break their slump at home?

Jets vs Flames picks and predictions

The Calgary Flames are in a freefall at the moment. They have lost seven consecutive games, including two in overtime. They just finished a tough road trip where they lost two of the three games by just a goal.

Tonight Calgary faces a Winnipeg Jets team that has won five of its last six games. The only loss in that stretch was to the Pacific-leading Golden Knights in overtime.

One of the biggest issues for the Flames right now is star forward Jonathan Huberdeau. The left winger was part of a trade from Florida to the Flames in the offseason for Matthew Tkachuk. Huberdeau had 115 points for the Panthers last season. So far, in 13 games, he has just five. In his last 10 games, Huberdeau has one goal.

In an effort to try and jolt his player, Coach Darryl Sutter put him on the second line with former Colorado center Nazem Kadri. Huberdeau has been dealing with an upper-body injury for the last week and has not played since the November 7 game against the Islanders. He is questionable for Saturday’s game against the Jets.

The issues go far beyond one player, however. The Flames are 21st in goals for and rank 19th on the power play, converting just 20% of the time. They are 20th in goals against with an average of 3.31.

The team has struggled since losing stars Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau, and they are still trying to find their identity. Don't expect them to do so tonight.

Besides, with Winnipeg getting as much as +135 on the moneyline, this is an attractive bet.

My best bet: Jets moneyline (+135 at Caesars)

Jets vs Flames moneyline analysis

As I said earlier, the +135 the Jets are getting for Saturday’s game are attractive odds with not much risk, especially with how Winnipeg has been playing as of late. If the odds weren’t so bad (-194), I would be tempted to take the Jets on the puck line.

Defensively is where they shine most. They are third in the league in goals against at 2.33. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is third in the league in goals against at 1.98 and second in save percentage at .938.

The Jets are also showing discipline on the ice. They are the third-least penalized team in the NHL, so the Flames won’t have much of a chance to get on the power play.

The trends lean toward Winnipeg. The Jets are 4-0 in their last four against a team with a losing record and are 5-1 in their last six against teams in the Western Conference.

On the other side, the Flames are 0-4 in their last four when playing on a day’s rest and are 3-7 in their last 10 against Western Conference teams.

Jets vs Flames Over/Under analysis

The total on Saturday’s game opened at 6.5 and hasn’t moved. The Under is the favorite at -110, while the Over is at -102.

While Calgary has started off hot in the first period, the Flames have cooled in the next two. In the last three games, they have scored four goals, then managed just two in the next six frames.

The Under has also hit for Calgary in six of its last nine games and cashed in three of its last five games against the Western Conference. The defense is a bit shaky, however, and could jeopardize the Under.

If there is any risk to the Under, it's starting goalie Jacob Markstrom. The Flames' netminder has a 4-3-2 record with a save percentage of .893%, which is tied for 40th in the league.

However, if the Jets can limit the Flames to a first-period goal and then hit their average of 3.17, this game will stay Under.
