Josh Morrissey hasn't been shy about letting the puck fly in March, and our NHL betting picks expect more of the same tonight vs. the Stars.

We’ve got a huge Central Division clash on the NHL slate tonight as the division-leading Winnipeg Jets welcome the Dallas Stars to Canada Life Centre.

Josh Morrissey hit the 50-point mark for a third straight season earlier this week, but it’s his high-volume shooting that’s caught my attention.

I’ll break down why I think the Winnipeg blueliner will pile up plenty of shots in my Jets vs. Stars predictions and NHL picks for Friday, March 14.

Jets vs Stars prediction

My Jets pick: Josh Morrissey Over 2.5 shots on goal (+155 at Pinnacle)

My Jets analysis
The Winnipeg Jets sit comfortably atop the Central Division with an eight-point lead over the Dallas Stars and have an opportunity to extend that gap tonight.

Josh Morrissey has been a key cog to Winnipeg’s success this season thanks in part to his ability to get pucks through from the point, and I’m expecting the defenseman to rack up Over 2.5 shots vs. Dallas.

The Jets blueliner has fired 19 shots in six games this month, trailing only Nikolaj Ehlers (21) for the team lead. Ehlers missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday so it’s possible he’s out of the lineup for tonight’s game, which puts more pressure on Morrissey to pick up the offensive slack.

Morrissey has recorded 3+ shots in four of his last seven contests, including a season-high six attempts against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 1.

The Stars have been a solid defensive team this season, holding opponents to 27.5 shots (11th) and 2.58 goals per game (third), although they’ve looked a bit loose defensively of late. Over its last 11 contests, Dallas has allowed 31.1 shots against per game — the fifth-worst mark in the NHL.

Jets vs Stars odds analysis

The Jets opened as the slight home favorite at -126 at Pinnacle and after some slight fluctuation, that number was right back where it started by Friday morning.

Two of the league’s top netminders will likely go head-to-head tonight in Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger, though the Jets goaltender has looked much sharper of late, which could give the hosts the edge.

The total opened at 5.5, and I’m always going to lean towards the Under in this type of goaltending matchup. The Under is also 6-0 in the last six meetings between the teams.
