Maple Leafs vs Panthers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

John Tavares has been rolling of late, and so has the Maple Leafs' second line also featuring William Nylander and Bobby McMann. They will stay hot and help Toronto get on the board first in Florida tonight.

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs meet the Florida Panthers at Amerant Arena.

The Leafs and Cats are going in opposite directions down the final stretch of the regular season, and recent trends look promising for Toronto’s offense, which has my Maple Leafs vs. Panthers predictions fading Florida.

Find out why with my free NHL picks for this Tuesday, April 8 matchup at 7 p.m. ET.

My Leafs pick: Maple Leafs to score first (-120 at Sports Interaction)

My Leafs analysis
The Toronto Maple Leafs look to get a stranglehold on the Atlantic Division this week, and a road win against the Florida Panthers tonight would do just that.

The Buds are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and have won four in a row, including a 3-2 win against Florida less than a week ago.

The Panthers, however, are in complete free-fall mode with five straight losses and now sit just two points up on the wild card-leading Ottawa Senators.

Injuries, rest, and suspensions are big contributors to this. The Cats have been without Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov due to injury. They’ve also sat out Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart, and Gus Forsling in recent games. Oh, and Aaron Ekblad is still suspended until Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

That's a lot of star power absent from this Panthers lineup, especially offensively, where the Cats have averaged a league-low 1.4 goals per game over this five-game skid.

Additionally, the team opened the scoring just once in this stretch, and I expect that trend to continue tonight against a red-hot Leafs squad playing for a division title.

Since the first of last month, a 17-game span, the Leafs have averaged 3.59 goals per game, ranking third in the NHL. They’ve also been playing with the lead often, scoring the first goal in 11 of those 17 outings, and will do that again tonight against a struggling Florida squad.

Maple Leafs vs Panthers same-game parlay (SGP)

Maple Leafs to score first

Bobby McMann 2+ shots on goal

John Tavares anytime goal

Bobby McMann’s playing over 17 minutes a game on a scorching-hot second line that has produced a lot of offense the last few weeks. McMann has been averaging 2.9 shots per game over his last 10 games since being elevated alongside William Nylander and John Tavares.

For the final leg of the SGP, I’ll stick with the theme of Toronto’s second line and grab an anytime goal from John Tavares. He’s been the NHL’s hottest goal scorer since the NHL trade deadline, with 12 goals in his last 14 games. He’s also scored in back-to-back games against the Panthers and has three goals in the last four meetings against the Cats.
