After a much-needed two-day break, the Edmonton Oilers return to action against the St. Louis Blues this evening at the Enterprise Center.

St. Louis has lost four of its past five games — with each of those four losses coming by at least a two-goal margin — and my Oilers vs. Blues predictions expect that trend to continue tonight.

Oilers vs Blues prediction

My Oilers pick
Oilers -1.5 (+140 at BET99)

My Oilers analysis
Despite the recent two-game slide, the Edmonton Oilers are arguably the best team in the NHL. To start with the obvious, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl lead one of the most dynamic offenses in the league.

Edmonton ranks third in xGF/60, which makes sense given the forward group includes two Hart Trophy candidates.

A more surprising factor in the Oilers' success has been their strong defensive play. Edmonton has been just as efficient defensively as it has been offensively, ranking third in xGA/60.

Goaltender Stuart Skinner has played well behind this defensively sound group. Through 35 starts this season, Skinner is 19-12-4 with a .902 SV% and 2.71 GAA.

This success is likely to continue against the St. Louis Blues, a team against which he holds a .917 SV% through six career meetings. Skinner will benefit from facing one of the weakest offensive teams in hockey, as St. Louis ranks 29th in xGF/60.

Although the Blues’ defense has been stronger, they still rank lower than the Oilers in xGA/60.

Oilers vs Blues same-game parlay (SGP)

Oilers -1.5

Connor McDavid anytime goalscorer

Leon Draisaitl Over 0.5 assists

If we are backing Edmonton to win by two or more goals, then we need its skaters to find the back of the net. Enter Connor McDavid, who enters this contest in good form with five goals over the past seven games.

Leon Draisaitl assisted on three of those five goals and currently sits atop the Hart Trophy odds.

Draisaitl and McDavid both skate on the first power play unit, which should thrive against a St. Louis team that ranks 29th in penalty kill percentage.

With a penalty kill percentage below 72%, St. Louis is at a clear disadvantage against McDavid, Draisaitl, and the Oilers.
