NHL Parlay & SGP Picks: Odds and Predictions for Thursday's Playoff Games

Valeri Nichushkin is scoring goals in the NHL playoffs like it's going out of style, and his matchup against the Dallas Stars makes his points prop an excellent addition to any NHL SGP — including ours!

Bettors were rewarded for tailing my last SGP on Tuesday featuring the same matchups as tonight with a +247 winner. Tonight, I’m going back to the well in my NHL picks for May 9.

The Canes will be shooting, and Jacob Trouba will continue to get in the way of the rubber; Val Nichuskin will lead the Colorado offense again tonight, and two-way scoring should be expected in Game 2 in the nightcap.

Read more about it in my NHL parlay ahead, and check out an SGP for both games!

NHL playoffs parlay picks May 9

  • Trouba Over 3.5 blocked shots + Nichushkin Over 0.5 points + COL/DAL BTTS 2+ goals (+243 at bet365)

Best NHL parlay picks for Thursday

NHL parlay pick

Jacob Trouba Over 3.5 blocked shots

Valeri Nichushkin Over 0.5 points

COL/DAL both teams to score 2+ goals

The Carolina Hurricanes are in shoot-first mode tonight as the series returns to Raleigh, where no team shoots more pucks than the Canes. Trailing 2-0 in the series also helps increase the shot volume, as getting cute with the puck is not an option in a critical Game 3.

I’m avoiding the Carolina shot markets as those odds have been adjusted heavily, but because of shooting equity from the home side, the New York Rangers blocked shot markets are also looking good.

Jacob Trouba might not be a fan favorite, but the man knows how to get between the shooter and the goalie. He had nine blocks alone in Game 2, with eight of those coming in the first half of the game. He leads the playoffs in blocks/60 at 17.46 which is a massive number and why his blocked shot market is at 3.5.

I’m putting his Over 3.5 blocks on the card which has moved from +110 to -125 and is a number he has hit the Over in six straight games.

Valeri Nichushkin has scored in every postseason game and with his linemates consisting of Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, he will find the scoresheet again tonight.

The Colorado Avalanche's power play is scoring at nearly 50%, and with the Dallas Stars blue line only skating five guys despite dressing six, the hulking winger can do what he wants in front of the net as the blue line continues to wear down. He scores off the wing and in tight and that’s why his Over 0.5 points (-190) is getting added to this parlay.

The Avs are a great team to target for these props as the offense can come back vs. any deficit while Alex Georgiev has had some off games in net in the postseason.

Dallas’ issues are not on offense, as very few teams in the league are as deep as this club, and with the Avs scoring on the power play, that’s always going to create make-up calls and possibly more power-play opportunities for the Stars.

With a total of 6.5, both teams to score 2+ goals is a safe leg to add to this parlay to boost the odds.

Today's NHL same-game parlay picks

Our betting experts have scoured through today's NHL odds to find your best SGP bets for each game on Thursday's playoff slate:

Rangers vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)

Hurricanes in regulation

Martin Necas 3+ shots

Andrei Svechnikov 2+ shots

Carolina wingers Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov have combined for 31 attempts and just nine shots across the first two games of the series. They both averaged more shots per game and registered more per 60 minutes on home ice than the road during the regular season, and Necas and Svechnikov have only played 1:01 of ice time together in this series, so they won't be taking away shooting opportunities away from one another in Game 3.

Necas averaged 3.3 shots per game with a team-high 11.4 per 60 at PNC Arena, and Svechnikov averaged 2.7 per home game while ranking second in shots per 60 (9.5). Additionally, the go-to wingers are driving 5-on-5 possession with respective 60.2 and 62.2 Corsi For percentages through Games 1 and 2.

Avalanche vs Stars same-game parlay (SGP)

bet365 Logo

Avalanche team total Over 3.5

Valeri Nichushkin anytime goalscorer

Miro Heiskanen Over 2.5 shots on goal

Nobody has slowed down this Colorado offense, and it's worth riding until I see otherwise. Nichushkin has scored in every playoff game to date and is still paying great money to find the back of the net tonight.

I'd play his AGS at +145 or better as a solo play until the books correct it. With the Stars giving massive minutes to just five D-men, Heiskanen will continue to see 25 minutes of ice time while trailing, which creates more shooting opportunities for the losing team.
