Edmonton Oilers vs Florida Panthers series odds

Oilers Edmonton Oilers to win -105 -108 -110
Panthers Florida Panthers to win -114 -112 -110

The Edmonton Oilers used to win games solely off the magic of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, which is what ultimately led to their demise each year. Although both players are still magicians, this is no longer the only thing going for Edmonton. The Oilers make you work for every inch of the ice and play physically, and Stuart Skinner finally looks like a netminder they can rely on.

Sadly, the Florida Panthers hit harder, have better goaltending, and possess the scoring depth needed to keep up with Edmonton. The Panthers are constructed for the playoffs, and back-to-back Cup appearances are no fluke. With both teams great at suppressing shots, I see plenty of low-scoring games, with the majority of them going the Panther's way.

Pick: Panthers in 7 (+425 at bet365)
Pick made on 6-3.

Oilers X-factor: Stuart Skinner

Written on 6-4.

Stuart Skinner was pulled from net during the Vancouver Canucks series... and he took that personally. Since being handed back the No. 1 netminder duties, Skinner has allowed two goals or less in seven of his eight starts.

The question remains, can he keep this up? The Panthers have similar depth scoring to the Stars, but Dallas doesn't hit as hard as Florida does. The Cats are going to make it as hard as possible on Edmonton to even create scoring chances, and the Oilers will have to take a similar approach in smothering Florida's shots like they did to Dallas in Games 2 through 5.

We know Sergei Bobrovsky is capable of making big-time saves for his team, but if Skinner starts to regress back to his regular season SV% mark of .897, this series will be over sooner than later.

Panthers X-factor: Sam Bennett

Written on 6-4.

There aren't many players who can get under their opponent's skin quite like Sam Bennett, and now he's even chipping in offensively. Bennett tallied a goal in three straight to close out the Rangers, making this team even more difficult to defend.

We all know what the top line of Verhaeghe/Barkov/Reinhart is capable of, but if Bennett can keep up his scoring alongside Matthew Tkachuk, the Oilers may be in for a world of pain.

Stanley Cup Final top goalscorer odds

Odds as of 6-14.

Player bet365
Panthers Evan Rodrigues -225
Oilers Connor McDavid +200
Oilers Ryan McLeod +1,600
Oilers Zach Hyman +1,800
Panthers Aleksander Barkov +5,000

Let me preface this by saying I don't expect a high-scoring series. These are two teams who will need to earn every opportunity against two goaltenders in prime form. I think it's only going to take four or five goals to win this, and my pick is Connor McDavid.

McDavid has just five goals in 18 games but it's not due to lack of trying. The Oilers' captain took four or more shots in four of six vs. Dallas, and I expect him to keep the shots coming with his team playing for the Cup. His playoff shooting percentage of 9.1% is down considerably from his regular season mark of 12.2%, so I also believe there's positive regression coming his way.

Pick: Connor McDavid (+550)
Pick made on 6-4.
