The United States women's basketball team was heavily favored in the women's Olympic basketball odds and overwhelmed mostly inferior competition at Paris 2024 before running into a determined France squad. But Team USA was able to dig in and score a one-point victory in the gold medal game to take the ultimate international prize in women's hoops for an eighth straight time.

2024 Olympic women's basketball favorites

When the United States announced its roster for the 2024 Olympic games, the main talking point was not who made the team but who was left off it, namely Caitlin Clark. But the U.S. clearly deserved to be massive favorites of -2,000, and those odds only became shorter as the gold medal game approached.

France was a hefty underdog but matched the Americans bucket-for-bucket all the way to the end. Despite their best efforts, the French had to settle for silver.
