Aston Villa vs Arsenal Predictions & Picks for Saturday’s EPL Matchup

Arsenal looked excellent in their season-opening 2-0 victory over Wolves and they'll now hit the road to take on Aston Villa. We love their chances and expect them to take home three points.

My analysis
We saw Aston Villa win both games against Arsenal last season but things are likely to be different this weekend.

Aston Villa beat West Ham 2-1 on the road thanks to a late winner from Jhon Duran but in truth, West Ham felt merely likely to snatch the winner, having the bulk of possession and being on the front foot for the second half.  Meanwhile, the Gunners got off to a perfect start at the Emirates, scoring twice and keeping a clean sheet against Wolves. They won the possession battle and doubled up their opponents in shots and shots on targets.

It was a strong start and their back four continued where it left off last season, with William Saliba and Gabriel both exceptional at the heart of the defense. They still have a healthy Jurrien Timber and new signing Riccardo Calafiori to add to that defense, which gives them real depth.

The front three in particular looked dangerous with Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz all likely to keep their places in the team. Saka was fantastic last season but Martinelli struggled down the stretch and it’ll please Arsenal how good he looked in the opener. The same can be said for Havertz, who scored the second goal, set up the first, and looked threatening whenever Arsenal attacked.

That strength in attack is what will set Arsenal apart. The Aston Villa attack didn’t look quite as good against West Ham despite scoring twice in that game.

Moran Rogers and John McGinn were good but not great and Leon Bailey was the only starter to look dangerous. Arsenal will need to keep him in check. Ollie Watkins had one of his worst performances in recent memory and the team looked better when Jhon Duran took his place, although it’s almost certain Watkins will remain the starter here.

Arsenal’s attack is in good form; they appear to be physically fresh and that should be a concern for Villa. The Gunners are strong across the park and their defensive form since the start of last season makes them the meanest defense in the Premier League. That combination of great attack and dynamic backline will earn them the three points here.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal same-game parlay (SGP)

Arsenal moneyline

Both teams to score — No

Over 1.5

In addition to our best bet, we’re also going to back Arsenal to keep a clean sheet. The Gunners looked strong defensively last week, keeping a clean sheet, and they had the best defensive record in the Premier League last year.

We’re also adding the Over 1.5. With Arsenal keeping a clean sheet, we'll need to see two goals from the visitors. They did do so last week and will fancy their attack's chances, especially when Villa allowed 15 shots to West Ham last time out.
