Denmark vs Belgium predictions
Moneyline pick
Belgium were without their first-choice midfield pair to begin the Euros, with Kevin De Bruyne and Axel Witsel sidelined, and it did not matter at all. Youri Tielemans pulled the strings from midfield brilliantly, Thorgan Hazard dribbled through Russia like his brother, and Romelu Lukaku continued to prove he is a lethal combination of ability and intelligence.
With an absurd list of attacking talent and an experienced, well-drilled backline, Belgium's midfield — missing talisman De Bruyne and his partner, Witsel — could have been the team's one weakness heading into the first match. Instead, as he has since he was a teenager, Tielemans stepped up without problems, while his partner, Leander Dendoncker, played alongside him brilliantly.
Lukaku, with goals No. 39 and 40 in his last 38 games for Belgium, tied it all together as the attack's focal point, bringing the midfield into attack in possession and allowing Hazard, Dries Mertens and Yannick Carrasco to make forward runs.
On paper, entering the Euros, Belgium looked like they would only be tested by a few teams — at most. Without their best player in the opening match, they only furthered that notion.
For Denmark, there is no denying the impact the events of Saturday will have moving forward. They were, understandably, visibly shaken in completing their match against Finland after it was suspended. It's difficult to think a few days will change much at all, though news of Erikson's condition will be a boost compared to the uncertainty that existed on Saturday.
Really, regardless of the status of Denmark's squad ahead of this game, getting Belgium on the moneyline at plus-money is absolutely wild. Don't hesitate in backing one of the world's best teams.
PREDICTION: Belgium (+100)
Alternative spread
In Belgium's 14 competitive matches since the 2018 World Cup, the Red Devils have won 13 and drawn once, with an average margin of victory of 3.8 goals. While a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic in Prague is the lone blemish, all 13 of Belgium's wins during that span came by two goals or more.
Against Russia, Belgium were missing their most creative player in De Bruyne and didn't seem to really hit their highest possible level. Yet, they were absolutely clinical in the penalty area, converting three of their four shots on target in a 3-0 win, with an expected goals of just 1.8.
Denmark's defensive stability shouldn't be overlooked, with seven clean sheets in their last 12 competitive fixtures. The midfield pair of Thomas Delany and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg make up a strong defensive double pivot, the backline led by Simon Kjaer is disciplined, and Kasper Schmeichel is a superb shot-stopper.
However, similar to Belgium's odds on the moneyline, regardless of Denmark's status as a squad, getting such great value on one of the world's best teams to win by two goals — which they regularly do — is too good to pass up.
PREDICTION: Belgium -1.5 (+280)
