My analysis
Man City didn’t lose a single game in regulation during UCL last year, but the club exited the competition at the quarterfinal stage after a defeat on penalties to Real Madrid. If you look at the eight games they played before, there’s one thing in common — goals — with Man City scoring 24 times.
Incidentally, they scored exactly three times per game. While they did concede regularly, the -1 handicap would have landed in six of eight leading up to the quarterfinal matchups with Madrid.
There’s every reason to believe Man City will enter this year’s Champions League in hot form too. They’ve won all four of their league games so far this season and have scored 11 times. Coincidentally a -1 handicap would have landed in all but one of those contests.
If you contrast that with Inter Milan, it’s clear who comes into this in better form. Inter may have won Serie A last season but they have just two wins in four and have drawn against both Genoa and Monza — both finished in the bottom half last season.
Back when these teams met in the final in 2023, we’d seen Inter play at a sustained great level for some time, and right now, they’re far off that.
Man City come into this game unbeaten this season and playing as good as they’ve ever played under Guardiola. They also have an incredible home record in the Champions League and have avoided defeat in regular time across their past 31 games at the Etihad, with their last UCL defeat at the stadium almost exactly six years.
City have the experience, the home turf, and the red hot form to cover the -1 handicap, so grab it.
