My analysis
It's not just that Southampton have won six points from their first 20 games after earning promotion back to the Premier League, but Man United must win this game for several reasons. They are far away from the right end of the table themselves and the changes in hierarchy, management, and sports strategy they've gone through over the past year have all had little impact on their fortunes. What looked like cruel irony from their arch-rivals — the perspective of a giant like Man United getting relegated - could become a real threat if league results don't improve fast.
And Southampton seems to be the perfect team to play a victim's role right now. United are undefeated in their last 16 games against The Saints in all competitions. Southampton have lost six of their last seven matches in the Premier League and have failed to score in five of their last six encounters. They are not doing well at all and only a miracle could still do the trick and push them over the relegation line until the end of the campaign.
Mediocre as they've been recently, United still managed to hit the net twice against dominant league leaders Liverpool at Anfield a week ago, returning home with a point. I'm backing United to win by at least two goals against Southampton.

Bruno Fernandes, one of United's leaders, should also step up and create against an inferior opponent. His ability to find space and a killer pass might prove essential in unblocking the opposite defense, so I'm backing him to assist at least once for a United goal.
