This Saturday, we have a local Premier League matchup with Midlands club Wolves and Aston Villa meeting at Molineux.
There's transfer speculation surrounding star strikers for both teams, but despite their futures being in doubt, our Wolves vs. Aston Villa predictions have it finishing as a high-scoring game with both teams finding the back of the net.
Read on for my Premier League free betting picks for Saturday, February 1, with kickoff at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
Premier League predictions for Wolves vs Aston Villa
My best bet:
Over 2.5 + Both teams to score (-118 at TonyBet)
My analysis
There’s no love lost between Wolves and Aston Villa, with the clubs being the only two West Midlands teams in the Premier League, with WBA and Birmingham now in the lower tier. That adds some extra spice to this game, and supporters will be excited ahead of the short journey to Molineux.
Both teams come into this having had differing seasons, although neither will be thrilled with where they stand in the Premier League table. Saturday’s guests are eighth in the table, which will be a disappointment on pre-season expectations. Still, having reached the Last 16 of the Champions League, they won’t be too sad about dropping points in the Premier League, even if they've now gone five games unbeaten.
Wolves came into the weekend 18th of 20 in the Premier League and are now in a battle to stay up. They’re in a strange position in that unlike the other teams in the relegation zone, they’ve not had a problem scoring, the issue has been letting goals in.
They’ve scored 32 goals in 23 games, which, for context, is only one fewer than Nottingham Forest, who are in third. However, they’ve given up a staggering 52 goals, more than two per game, with only Southampton having conceded more. That’s part of the reason we’re taking the Over 2.5 goals + Both teams to score as our best bet.
Wolves have conceded at least once in their past six games in all competitions, and we’ve seen both teams score in seven of 11 home games in the league this season. Of the four games that didn’t hit BTTS, we saw two of those involve the team that didn’t score reduced to 10 men. We’ve also seen eight of those home games hit the Over 2.5 mark and a huge 18 of their 23 EPL games overall.
With the likes of Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, himself under speculation of a move to Villa, and Villa’s Watkins, there’s real goalscoring ability on both sides. When these teams met in September, we saw Villa win 3-1.
Wolves vs Aston Villa same-game parlay (SGP)
We’re going to back Aston Villa to take three points in addition to both teams finding the back of the net. Villa showed their talent on Wednesday, beating Celtic 4-2 despite giving up a two-goal lead. Domestically, Villa has underperformed this season, but they’re still in eighth and unbeaten in five games, while Wolves entered the weekend third from bottom and have lost four games in a row.
