NEW YORK -- Adrian Beltre and Shin-Soo Choo homered in the first two innings as the Texas Rangers took a seven-run lead and held on for a 7-6 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday.
Beltre hit a two-run homer and Choo added a three-run shot off Michael Pineda (7-4). Drew Robinson also homered and Elvis Andrus preceded the homers with an RBI single as Texas won for the 11th time in 16 games.
Aaron Judge started New York's comeback attempt with an RBI single. Gary Sanchez hit a three-run homer, Ronald Torreyes hit a solo homer and Didi Gregorius added a run-scoring base hit.
The Yankees were unable to complete the comeback as Matt Bush ended his ninth save by striking out Sanchez with Judge on first base.
Neither starter lasted past the fifth.
Pineda allowed seven runs and six hits in four innings while Nick Martinez (3-3) allowed four runs and six hits in five innings.
After Andrus made it 1-0, Beltre gave the Rangers a 3-0 lead when he hit a 1-1 fastball over the left-center field wall. Choo made it 6-0 with two outs in the second when he hit an 0-2 slider about halfway up in the second deck in right.
The Rangers took a 7-0 lead with two outs in the fourth when Robinson sliced a first-pitch slider into the Yankees' bullpen beyond the center field wall. It was Robinson's first career hit.
The Yankees showed signs of life with four in the fifth. Judge singled up the middle and Sanchez hit a full count fastball into the netting above Monument Park in center field.
New York got to within 7-5 on when Torreyes just cleared the left field wall against Jose Leclerc. The Yankees nearly took a one-run lead but Gregorius hooked a ball a few seats to the right of the right field foul pole and settled for a single off Alex Claudio to make it a one-run game.
Sanchez was thrown out trying to advance to third on Gregorius' single and Keone Kela stranded Chase Headley at second in the eighth.
