MILWAUKEE -- Jimmy Nelson struck out 10 and finished a complete game for the first time in his career to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.
Nelson (5-3) walked a pair while allowing just a run on six hits in the first complete game by a Milwaukee pitcher since Taylor Jungmann did it on July 11, 2015.
Hernan Perez and Manny Pina provided the offense with solo home runs in the sixth inning and Milwaukee's defense chipped in with a pair of double plays.
After stranding runners in scoring position in four of the first five innings, the Brewers finally got on the board in the sixth, tying the game on Hernan Perez's 10th home run of the season.
Luis Perdomo (1-4) retired Travis Shaw on a grounder to second and Manny Pina followed with a solo home run of his own to put Milwaukee in front 2-1.
The two home runs were the only blemishes on Perdomo's line. He finished with six hits and a pair of walks with four strikeouts over six innings of work.
Nelson, meanwhile, kept on going. He batted for himself in the seventh and came back out for the eighth inning at 96 pitches. He struck out Franchy Cordero to open the frame then served up a single to Wil Myers but was bailed out when Yangervis Solarte chopped into a double play to end the inning.
Nelson was at 106 pitches when he came out for the ninth. He got Hunter Renfroe looking for the first out and Spangenberg followed by lining out to first.
Erick Aybar was next and struck out on three straight pitches, clinching the complete game for Nelson and the Brewers' first series victory since sweeping the Mets on May 12-14.
