NEW YORK -- Brandon Nimmo hit two home runs in a game for the first time as a major leaguer Thursday night to lead the New York Mets to a 7-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field.
Nimmo, batting cleanup for the second time in 38 big league starts, finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
He doubled and scored the Mets' first run on a single by Dominic Smith in the second, homered leading off the fifth and capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth.
Nimmo entered Thursday with only one homer and five extra-base hits in 95 at-bats this season.
Jose Reyes had a two-run single in the fourth and Juan Lagares homered immediately after Nimmo's fifth-inning blast.
Matt Harvey (5-4) earned his first win since May 28 after allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one over five innings. It was the second start since coming off the disabled list for Harvey, who returned Saturday after missing more than two months with a right shoulder injury.
Adam Duvall had a sacrifice fly in the first for the Reds while Philip Ervin hit an RBI double in the second. Scott Schebler had two doubles.
Rookie right-hander Tyler Mahle (0-2) took the loss in his third big league start after allowing three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two over four innings.
Ervin walked leading off the first, took third on a single by Joey Votto and scored on Duvall's long sacrifice fly.
In the second, Schebler laced a leadoff double, went to third on Mahle's groundout and trotted home on Ervin's two-out double.
The Mets cut the lead in half in the second, when Nimmo hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on Lagares' groundout and scored on Smith's single.
A leadoff walk by Smith began the Mets' go-ahead rally in the fourth. Kevin Plawecki followed with a double and both runners scored on Reyes' two-out single to right.
The Mets extended their lead to 5-2 in the fifth, when Nimmo and Lagares opened the inning by greeting Tim Adleman with homers.
