Giants vs Yankees Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Jordan Hicks is rounding into form as a starting pitcher, and his ground-ball-inducing arsenal should play well against the Yankees. With Will Warren toeing the rubber for New York, the Giants have the edge despite being underdogs.

After a sloppy, rain-shortened game on Friday, the New York Yankees will look to avenge a loss to the San Francisco Giants this afternoon in what should be friendlier conditions at Yankee Stadium.

San Francisco will start Jordan Hicks, a pitcher who has begun the year with a sparkling 2.38 ERA. He could be the key to a series win opposite a shaky youngster.

Without further ado, let’s get into my Giants vs Yankees predictions and hand out some MLB picks for Saturday, April 12.

My Giants vs Yankees best bet: Giants moneyline (+114 at FanDuel)

Jordan Hicks was one of my favorite breakout pitchers from a season ago. The post-hype right-hander was finally given a second chance as a starter, and things started wonderfully until a tough stretch saw him lose his grip on a job and was sent back to the bullpen.

Yes, he came home with a 4.10 ERA when it was all said and done, but Hicks battled a viral issue not many paid close attention to. He was throwing up before his starts and looked like a competent starter with a keen eye for ground balls before that arose.

Walks have been an issue for the hard-throwing righty in the past, but he’s brought his walk rate down to a sparkling 6.5% while continuing to roll up ground balls on his sinker. This is an effective pitching method against the New York Yankees, who look to lift and drive the ball and lack the type of consistency to win games against ground-ballers despite holding decent marks in the split.

Will Warren is rather similar in his approach, walking just a few too many batters for his liking this season after hovering right above the league average in that department. Both men have had some issues with barrels as a ground ball-oriented arm, but those issues have been glaring for the young righty as he owns a .490 expected slugging percentage through two starts.

It comes down to which offense you trust more in this spot, and I have to go with the San Francisco Giants. They’ve started the season ranked 13th in wRC+ with a solid .182 isolated power, and while the Yankees have superior numbers, they’ve been cold lately. On top of that, they’ll have to deal with a sinker-baller, who should prevent them from hitting for too much power.

Giants vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Giants moneyline

Jung Hoo Lee 2+ total bases

Aaron Judge Over 0.5 walks

Warren primarily throws a sweeper — dealing it 29.1% of the time this season — and nobody has done a better job against this pitch from right-handers than Jung Hoo Lee. He leads active Giants with a .553 xSLG since the start of last season, and against four-seam fastballs, Warren’s second pitch, he owns a handsome .466 xSLG.

Lee is scorching hot at the moment, hitting .340 and slugging .596 to begin the season, and has gone over this number three times in five games. Batting in a premium lineup position, I love his chances of racking up two or more total bases yet again.

Then, I think it’s safe to mix in an Aaron Judge walk given Hicks’ longstanding issues with command. Cody Bellinger has struggled behind Judge, which has allowed opponents to pitch around him, and the reigning AL MVP has now taken six walks in his last seven games, recording at least one in four of his last five.

San Francisco was extremely careful when pitching to him last night as well, walking him twice in three plate appearances.
