ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas rallied from a four-run deficit and Martin Perez won his seventh straight start as the Rangers eased past the New York Yankees, 11-5 on Friday.
The Rangers trailed 4-0 going into the bottom of the second but ended up pounding New York starter Masahiro Tanaka (11-11) and pulling away. The 11 runs allowed by New York matches a season high.
The Yankees took advantage of an error to score four runs on the top of the second, with a two-run single from Gary Sanchez capping the scoring.
But Tanaka, who allowed seven runs over his last four starts, couldn't make it stand up. Texas got a run back in the bottom of the second and made it 5-3 in the third.
Texas ended the night for Tanaka and took the lead for good in the fifth inning. Robinson Chirinos made it a one-run game with an RBI double and came around to score on a wild pitch to tie the game. Elvis Andrus then put the Rangers up 7-5 with a two-run single off Tommy Kahnle. Tanaka lasted just four innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits.
The Rangers weren't done as they blew the game open with four runs in the seventh inning.
Carlos Gomez got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly and Joey Gallo followed with an RBI single. A two-run triple from Rougned Odor extended the lead to 11-5.
That was plenty of offense for Perez (12-10), who now has the longest winning streak by a Texas pitcher since 2005. He allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings, but only two of them were earned. He struck out four and gave up eight hits.
Texas finished with 15 hits as Andrus led the charge by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Delino DeShields, Shin-Soo Choo and Chirinos each scored twice.
The Yankees got all eight of their hits off Perez as the Texas bullpen worked 3 1/3 hitless innings. Sanchez finished 2-for-3.
An error on what could have been a double-play ball opened the door for the Yankees to take a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Texas second baseman Odor threw wildly to second on a grounder from Didi Gregorius that put runners on first and second.
The next three Yankees reached with Jacoby Ellsbury picking up an RBI single and Todd Frazier getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sanchez added a two-run single to push the New York lead to 4-0.
Texas got a run back on a solo homer from Nomar Mazara in the bottom of the second but Gregorius hit a solo homer in the third.
The Rangers cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the third on RBI doubles from DeShields and Andrus. Texas wasn't done scoring, as the Rangers took the lead and chased Tanaka with four runs in the fifth inning.
An RBI double by Chirinos cut the deficit to one and he came around to score on a wild pitch to tie the game. Andrus then put the Rangers up 7-5 with a two-run single.
Tanaka was charged with seven runs in four innings. It is the first time he allowed seven runs since May 31.
