Philadelphia Phillies vs Pittsburgh Pirates Match Player Stats On Aug 01, 2021

J.T. Realmuto matched a career high with five hits and added four RBIs and Kyle Gibson had a strong start in his team debut Sunday as the visiting Philadelphia Phillies avoided a series sweep with a 15-4 romp over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jean Segura and Didi Gregorius each drove in three runs, Odubel Herrera and Alec Bohm two each and Brad Miller one as Philadelphia totaled 20 hits.

Gibson (7-3) gave up two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings, with two walks and five strikeouts. It was his first start since the Phillies acquired him at the trade deadline from the Texas Rangers.

Michael Perez homered and Wilmer Difo drove in a run and had two hits for the Pirates.

Pittsburgh starter Mitch Keller (3-8) pitched five innings, giving up four runs and eight hits. He struck out two without a walk.

In the first, Travis Jankowski doubled and later scored on Realmuto's single for a 1-0 Phillies lead.

Philadelphia scored two more in the second when Segura drove in Gregorius and Herrera with a two-out double.

The Pirates put together a little two-out rally in the third. Keller walked with two outs, making him Pittsburgh's first baserunner of the day. He went to third on Ben Gamel's single and scored on Difo's single to make it 3-1, though the Pirates left the bases loaded.

In the fifth, Bryce Harper hit one of his three doubles and scored on Realmuto's double for a 4-1 Phillies lead.

Philadelphia got two more in the sixth. Bohm singled, went to third on Gregorius' ground-rule double and scored on Herrera's sacrifice fly. An out later, Segura drove in Gregorius with a double to make it 6-1.

In the seventh, the Phillies increased it to 8-1 when Harper doubled, Realmuto got an infield single and, two outs later, Gregorius drove in both with a single.

Pittsburgh made it 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh as Hoy Park, in his Pirates debut, doubled, went to third on Michael Perez's single and scored on Kevin Newman's sacrifice fly.

Pittsburgh reliever Luis Oviedo walked the bases loaded, gave up a two-run single to Realmuto and walked one more before exiting in the eighth. Nick Mears entered and gave up three more runs, all charged to Oviedo, for a 13-2 game.

Philadelphia picked up two more in the ninth with Pirates first baseman John Nogowski pitching, and Perez's seventh homer, a two-run shot in the bottom of the ninth, made it 15-4.
