Kris Bryant hit a run-scoring double in the 10th inning as the visiting San Francisco Giants rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 Thursday afternoon.
The Giants trailed 4-0 going into the ninth before Bryant doubled and scored their first run of the game. San Francisco ended up tying the score before winning it in the 10th.
The comeback marked the first time San Francisco won a game in which it trailed by four runs going into the ninth inning since beating the Atlanta Braves 13-12 in 11 innings on April 18, 1993.
In the ninth, Arizona brought in reliever Taylor Clarke and Bryant (3-for-5, RBI) led off with a double, moved to third on a single by Alex Dickerson then scored on a double by Brandon Crawford.
Tyler Clippard came in and loaded the bases by hitting Donovan Solano. Brandon Belt made it 4-2 on a single to right before Clippard got the first two outs -- Buster Posey struck out and Wilmer Flores flew out to right.
LaMonte Wade Jr. got the big hit, working a full count then singling to right to drive in two runs and tie the score at 4.
In the top of the 10th, Bryant led off again and doubled to left off Tyler Gilbert (0-1) to score automatic runner Tommy La Stella.
Arizona's bullpen wasted a terrific outing from Merrill Kelly, who gave up three hits over eight shutout innings.
The Diamondbacks gave Kelly an early lead to work with, loading the bases with one out in the first. Pavin Smith's single scored Nick Ahmed and Carson Kelly for Arizona's first two runs.
In the third, Smith picked up his third RBI of the day on a single, scoring Kelly again.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Giants starter Alex Wood walked Jake Hager, which plated Christian Walker for a 4-0 lead.
Wood ended the threat by striking out the next two batters and getting Ahmed to ground out to short. Wood lasted four innings, giving up four runs off seven hits with five strikeouts.
The Giants' Tyler Rogers (3-1) pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the win, and Jake McGee did the same in the 10th to pick up his 24th save.
San Francisco not only took three of four in the series, but has now beaten Arizona in 12 of 14 games this season -- outscoring the Diamondbacks 99-56 in the process.
