Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a grand slam and a two-run homer, Teoscar Hernandez also hit a grand slam and the visiting Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 22-7 on Sunday afternoon.
Gurriel, who became the first Blue Jay to hit four grand slams in a season, had a career-best seven RBIs. Hernandez, who was twice hit by pitches, matched his career best with five RBIs. Danny Jansen added four RBIs in going 4-for-6.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 44th home run of the season to tie Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels for the major league lead. Jake Lamb (No. 7) had a solo shot for the Blue Jays (80-63), who won three of four from the Orioles and have 14 victories in their past 16 games.
Ryan Mountcastle hit his 28th homer of the season to tie Cal Ripken's Orioles rookie record for home runs. Austin Wynns added a solo homer (No. 3) and three RBIs and Anthony Santander hit a solo homer (No. 17) for the Orioles (46-97).
Toronto left-hander Steven Matz (12-7) allowed five runs and six hits in six innings.
Baltimore left-hander Zac Lowther (0-2) allowed seven runs, four hits and three walks in two-plus innings.
The Blue Jays scored five runs before making an out in the first inning. Bo Bichette singled, Marcus Semien and Guerrero walked and Hernandez was hit by a pitch. Gurriel followed with his 18th home run of the season.
Guerrero homered with two out in the second to make it 6-0.
The Orioles answered with three in the bottom of the second after loading the bases with two walks and a single. One run scored on a groundout by Kelvin Gutierrez and two scored on a single by Wynns.
The Blue Jays scored 10 runs in the third, four on the 28th homer of the season by Hernandez against Spenser Watkins who allowed seven runs in one-third of an inning before Mike Baumann replaced him. Lamb homered, Jansen stroked a two-run double and Breyvic Valera had an RBI single and a two-run double.
Baumann hit Hernandez with a pitch and allowed Gurriel's 19th homer in the fifth.
Eric Hanhold walked Gurriel with the bases loaded, Randal Grichuk had an RBI single and Jansen hit a two-run single in the sixth.
