Zach Eflin pitched seven shutout innings, Rhys Hoskins hit a three-run homer, and the Philadelphia Phillies salvaged the final game of the series with a 3-0 victory over the visiting New York Yankees on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.
Eflin (6-2) gave up four hits and two walks while striking out six. He threw 92 pitches, 67 for strikes.
Cesar Hernandez and Hoskins contributed two hits for the Phillies, who managed eight overall. Six different players had at least one hit.
It was the seventh shutout win of the season for Philadelphia.
Yankees starter Luis Cessa (0-1) lasted only three innings, giving up five hits and three runs. After the game, he was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Aaron Hicks had a pair of hits for the Yankees, who played without Aaron Judge (rest). New York managed just four hits.
Hoskins provided all of the game's offense in the second inning with an opposite-field home run to right, scoring Jorge Alfaro and Hernandez. It was Hoskins' sixth home run in the month of June and the 30th of his Phillies career.
In the third, the Yankees' defense was stellar as Brett Gardner made a leaping grab against the wall in left to steal extra bases from Carlos Santana. Giancarlo Stanton then made a nifty running catch in deep right to deny Aaron Altherr of a hit.
Giovanny Gallegos was terrific in his three innings of relief for the Yankees, as he allowed just two hits and struck out six. Gallegos allowed a one-out double in the sixth to Maikel Franco but rallied to strike out Alfaro and Eflin to end the scoring threat.
Hernandez opened the seventh with a double but was left stranded after Hoskins struck out, Odubel Herrera flied out to left and Santana grounded out sharply to first.
Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez tossed a perfect eighth inning and came back out for the ninth. Dominguez struck out Hicks swinging and got Didi Gregorius to ground out.
Dominguez, who reached 100 mph on several pitches, completed the two-inning save when he struck out Gleyber Torres swinging.
